Better late than never, we announce artist of the may Brandon 'obScene' Goins. Apart from being great composer and one of the most popular artist, he come up with many great ideas for the site and was recently invented to staff.

Visit his page Obscenemusic or check his CTG page.

Randor: So obscene, tell us who you are?

obScene: My real name is Brandon Goins, I live in a rural part of the United States. I have a wife of 5 years and a child who is almost 2. In a few weeks I am about to start college, so finally at 26 I will start working towards a career.

Randor: Oh, you going to study again?

obScene: Well I never really studied in the first place. I spent about 2 years in college when I graduated from high school, but I only took the basic classes and earned my "Associates in Arts" , which is a fancy way of saying I dropped out halfway. Back then I was thinking about majoring in Computer Science, but after taking a few classes of C++ I realized I was a really bad programmer.....
even my HTML is poor. Just ask Cooth.

Randor: Heheh, that counts me too. Could you now tell us how you get involved to music, further making it?

obScene: Guess like everyone its always been something Ive done. I always had a toy keyboard when I young, and then I took piano lessons for a year or two when I was around 8. But then my brother and sister were born, and so my parents couldnt afford to pay for my lessons anymore. So for the rest of this time I have just been banging on the piano the best I can...

I would say I got interested in composing music because of Nintendo games, I loved game music, especially from games like Final Fantasy and Zelda. Later with the Super NES I bought Mario Paint which may have been my first composing experience.

Randor: Sounds like you grow up to music Now we're curios to hear what are your influences? Is there favourite artists, does your family inspire you...?

obScene: Influences? Still probaby game music! I still love the Final Fantasy series, and my favorite music ever probably comes from Chrono Cross, another role playing game. Yasunori Mitsuda, who is the composer for the Chrono series, is definately my favorite composer. His work is simply beautiful.
Im not so sure if my family inspires me or not. Right now my wife is telling me " Don't be on that thing when I get home tonight" , so you see how that goes. My son is usually trying to hit the demo button on the keyboard every time I try to compose, which drives me nuts. If anything my family deters me from making music.

Randor: I see, its familiar on this side of the board aswell . So if family deters rather than supports, how you manage that creative process wich is needed when composing? Do you have special ability to focus what you after?

obScene: Well the creative process slips in and out all the time! I used to have alot of time late at night to compose so I some peace and quiet. Nowadays I have to get to bed sooner so I can get up with the kid in the morning. So if I compose, I do it during the daytime, and its full of distractions. He takes at least an hour long nap each day, so if I'm in the mood to compose I try to save it for then.

But now I have tons of unfinished songs, everything I do I have to stop in the middle of and it gets very frustrating. Also with school approaching I am a little nervous, I just cant concentrate like I could before.

Randor: More and more common issues. So, you already ment about startuing college. What are your other goals in life generally? Something music related in sight?

obScene: Im not a goal oriented person really. Maybe it sounds cliche but I try to enjoy the moment and dont think about the future. But If I had to guess, I would say in the future I will be a music teacher, preferably at the high school level. That's what Im going to school for.

Randor: Well that sounds something Is there any other special projets under surface? Though starting music teacher education sounds pretty heavy task...

obScene: Well the education won't be so hard, but It will take up alot of time. The college is almost 2 hours away, so I will have to travel 5 days a week for 4 years. So my only special project at the moment is trying my best to have as much fun as possible during this summer, before I have to start. We've traveled around alot here lately and visited family and friends.

Randor: There's still some final questions, like what is your setup? Tools you use for making music?

obScene: Not much. Reason and a computer. And my computer can barely run Reason  However I do have a decent 5 octave MIDI keyboard which I couldn't live without.
I also have a horrible connection.

Randor: I see, but you forget the most important one: your creativity Since without that you wouldn't do it. Now there's only one left. Have you got any sort of motto in your life and is there anything you want to say for the community fellas?

obScene: Thank you a motto? Not really. To the community fellas , though it sounds cheesy, I would have to say you guys have really changed my life. Before I found CTG I really had nobody to share my interest in music with. My musical aspirations had always taken a backburner to my job ( selling Produce ), but now it has become much more fullfilling for me.....
Before I would have never pursued an education in music since teaching is not a very high paying job, but now I see that it would be a job where I could be surrounded by music and people that love it, so it would kind of be like CTG, but getting paid.

Randor: Heheh, I'm happy for you. Seems you have the motto I asked, almost first you told you aren't goal oriented, rather trying to catch a moment and enjoy. Now if that isn't a motto, what is? Yet you have change to say something if you like since this interview might not cover all the aspects you consider important. Is there such a thinds?

obScene: Hmm. Im afraid there isnt a whole lot interesting about me I also love photogaphy, I love the outdoors. My brother has 2 ATV's , so when I visit him we spend most of our time riding around the mountains. This past weekend we took my son swimming in a mountain stream. Where I live now there are no mountains or streams so I have grown to love these things even more.

Randor: Mountains sound a place to charge your batteries I guess this is now finished, I 'd like to thank you for your time and effort.

obScene: Thank you!
I am just not an interesting person really.

Randor: Oh, who is then?

obScene: Cooth!!!!! he is my hero!!!
