Artist of the Month, October 2007: Madpac Written on 07 October 2007 by slammin vinyl

It’s Halloween month! It is time for a new Artist of the month!. Don’t worry though, because this artist’s work isn’t scary at all! Despite having song titles such as ‘Malaria’ and ‘Nuns with nipple’, (I’d be more scared if Nuns didn’t have nipples, now I think about it!). This time around I’ve picked out Madis ‘Madpac’ Pähno, who has been tearing apart the CTG charts for a good while now, with some excellent techno music. Now it’s time to find out a little bit more about the artist with cool song titles!!![/b]
slammy: Congratulations of becoming CTG's Artist of the Month, October 2007. To get us started, can you tell us something about yourself?

madpac: Thanks, proud to be the "chosen-one" of aotm at my birth month :)

My name is Madis Pähno. I was born in a city called Tartu, Estonia on October 24th. I started my musical studies in a local music school when I was only 5 years old. There I studied only classical instruments like violin and piano. Electronic music has been my interest ever since turn of the century. I started producing my own music (khm... sounds or something :D ) at the year of 2001-2002. Turntables I "saw" (tried to use) first time at 2005. Producing and dj'ing are my main interests today.

slammy: I guess it would help a lot having classic instrument training? Do you use the skills gained with the classical training, to help in your electronic music production?

madpac: It has certainly my form an opinion of music. I have much simpler to play on midi keyboard thanks to piano lessons. Sometimes I just chillin' many hours on the midi keyboard and playing some melodies. I think it helps a lot.

slammy: I'm sure it does! I bet it has nothing to do with how you name your tunes though... You have some pretty wild names for your music, such as 'Nun with Nipples' - how do you come up with something like that?

madpac: Hehe, I just like freaky and wild names. These are not so boring like majority names of tracks. Listeners look at my titles and thinks about "oh.. wow... this have to be cool... okay I have to listen it!" ... or I think so :D Main reason is presumably productive imagination. :)

slammy: I certainly enjoy the titles, and it caught my attention! If it wasn't for music, what do you think you'd be doing right now?

madpac: This is a really good question, because I don't know that. Music is main part of my life. I can't imagine what I'm doing without music :)

slammy: So the answer would be 'Nothing' then  . Is there a Mrs. Madpac?

madpac: Mrs. Mad, where did you saw her? I have time with it.

slammy:  So what can you tell us about any upcoming projects you have on the table?

madpac: As you'll notice I have two main styles - techno and house. I have produced experimental stuff for the most part as of late - these projects are unfinished of course :D . Now I have some new house projects in the pipeline. I just like deep and "sunset/sunrise" style house music. I don't forget techno side of course. :)

slammy: Moving away from music, are you in education, or are you employed? and can you tell us a bit about what you do?

madpac: I finished vocational school last spring. Now I'm employed. My specialty is electrician. Last two years I worked on car-electricity - cars sound and alarm. In last summer I started my duty period on my specialty. Next year (on January) I'll must go to army - so then I'm away of music for a season.
What I do more? - Party all the time :D

slammy: Sounds like the life of Riley if you ask me! . What achievement are you most proud of?

madpac: Hm, how many achievements I have on my life. 1st place in CTG Charts is good enough? :) Actually the good achievement is this, people listening my music and they enjoy that. I'll evolve (music) and "my" people will evolve :) I'm proud of this!

slammy: Where do you see yourself evolving too?

madpac: In music I want evolve to be content with my skills and sound. Currently I have something missing there. Let the time show that where I evolving to.

slammy: What kind of advice would you give to someone just starting out?

madpac: Best advice what I can give is that, if you just starting out don't copy someone else, try to express your own musical views and offer something new. Try always to evolve somewhere (e.g. professional) because this is the best aim. Don't to that for money, then you just "lost" your creativity. Do that what you like but do that well!

slammy: Thanks Madpac! that has rounded up our interview very nicely, are there any final comments you'd like to add at this point?

madpac: Thanks to you! And thanks all the CTG people, you're great!
See you! :)
