(Coverpic from DeviantArt; this one's "Dark Forest" by Sonnenradbanner)

For the RPG "Rising Legacy", by Matt Dalgety.

This song was mostly inspired by the wonderful game "Myst III: Exile" by Ubisoft [ :hail: ] and Mr.S' works.

I tried to make this a neo-classical ethnic song, but it incorporated electro and experimental influences.

Greets:
* Ubisoft
* Mr.S
* Cartlemmy (for fixing the guitar sample)
* Nifflas (I made the sometimes inaudible vocoded airy synth based on his guide)

Samples from me, the soundtracks of "Myst III: Exile" and "Medieval: Total War" (see ID3 tag for specifics)

Sirrus and Achenar are the two sons of Atrus, one of the protagonists of "Myst III: Exile". I just put their names in the title because they sounded nifty

Enjoy :coffee:

update 27 Sept. 2006: finally put the coverpic up again. I hate the new DA layout.

Hi PartySan :) Thanks very much for your review of Souru! I really enjoyed Sirrus Forest not only for it's own sound but also for the integration of the Myst III samples as I'm really familiar with those tracks and you've done a fantastic job of flawlessly integrating them with your piece.

The intro is great, emotive, atmospheric, my favourite part is when the wave sample fades out and in quickly at 0:39, it has quite an impact. Very nice buildup to the main body of the piece.

Very good panning and sample quality throughout. With your drums I really liked the way they rolled along and were just slightly off-beat to add to the ethnic feel, very well done! They really create a sense of a journey and propel the listener forward.

Good and interesting composition throughout, there's lots going on and this piece is never boring. I like the way you've managed to use strange chord harmonics and still retain a strong sense of continuity and cohesion in the piece.

Good length too, it would have been a crime for this beautiful piece to finish at the traditional 3-4 minute mark. The extra time you put in definately pays off!

The only minor criticisms I have are the way the guitar sample slides up at 4:38, it's the only note in the whole piece that sounds out of place; and the ending seems to appear too abruptly, another 60 seconds of that wave sample fading out to nothing at the end would have really rounded out the atmosphere I think.

Overall an entrancing, beautifully written piece with great quality and a lot of attention to detail. Definately a favourite :) Thanks for sharing it!

Good stuff here..the white noise really sets up the opening ambience....

choir works well...ethinic percussion also sounds sweet, all elements fitting well...strings , flute...

Yep this is really a mind journey with a strong sense of the unknown..what lies ahead....?

objective accomplised........

The mix is tight man....Im wondering about the choral vox..how did u get that in there?

Keep us posted on any developments..I so rarely will give a perfect score..but this does indeed deserve it..

Everybody listen and learn from this....

Amazingly enough, this is the first PartySan track I've actually listened to! But on the basis of this I'll be downloading a hell of a lot more, and soon. I am bad, not listening earlier! (slap)

I haven't actually played Myst III: Exile, but I'm a big fan of the first two. The opening of this track immediately took me back to Myst - the atmosphere is highly evocative of that game. What I like about this track is that it takes the right amount of time to establish itself - it doesn't feel rushed, and it doesn't drag. The singing near the start reminds me of the Lothlorien sections from Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings score. And then almost imperceptably an ethnic percussion emerges from the mist. It's expertly done, professional soundtrack-quality material.

The quiet but moodily ominous interlude just before the halfway mark shifts the tone into slightly darker territory. It's a fantastic atmosphere, expertly handled. The vaguely distorted undertone that is used sends shivers down my spine. It's like a trip into the netherworld - a spooky forest haunted by the lost spirits of a thousand generations. It's hard to even describe how good it is, that's how good it is! Wonderful effects as the track fades out into the distance.

Without doubt this track does exactly what it sets out to do. It's a near flawless journey from PartySan's imagination into the audio realm that convinces my brain entirely that I'm in Sirrus Forest. And for that, it gets a 10.

Good job. I felt the start was a little rocky, but you pulled it through very well. Good mood-setting.

I was wondering when the crunk fans would show up...

Whoah, dude. Thanks for the appreciation, but chill man :)

This kind of reaction should only be reserved for albums by scientifically-proven-to-be-incredibly awesome bands. ;) (e.g. MBV, Radiohead, NIN, etc.)

Luved it ! It's hard to find mystical and eerie music. Hearts of Space sometimes succeeds and so do Mark Dwane and Steve Roach and Robert Rich among others. Better mention Aphex Twins too.

I should pay attention more often :)

Thanks Alarin. Comments: yeah I'm not satisfied with the guitar either but I'm amazed nobody found it a flaw.

Okay, I set a record of 6 months on one of my songs with a 10 overall mark :D That's still nice to know.

Shit is, I haven't managed to make a great song like this since I uploaded it.
MemberNifflas [31st. March 13:35] [194.153.52.130]
This song owns! You've improved insanely lately. With no doubt a 10. Such a shame I don't review anymore.

you know, AmBeam, if you have a multitrack program like Audition or Cool Edit Pro which supports importing mp3s, it gets easy.

Thanks for the favorite btw

PartySan! I'm damn schocked! You impressed me much! This track is great! :excited: How did you done that?! Revelation... Tell me where you found the samples of singing! They are incredible!

Of course I fully agree with krazykrok and Viba! Well deserved 10/10. Will try to write you a review! I think it wouldn't be any problem.

Revelation... Worth downloading and listening! :excited:

btw. reminds me Enigma and Deep Forest a bit..

EDIT: ahh I've just read ID3 tags, simple.. ;)
ArtistPartySan [14th. February 9:21] [85.204.212.105]
yeah, considering how many videogame samples I ripped  (j/k)
Artist1up [14th. February 8:17] [85.8.4.132]
It's truly great!
ArtistPartySan [13th. February 20:38] [85.204.212.105]
Bloody hell, what a big response :geek: I totally didn't expect this.

Well, here are my answers:
1up: Yeah, somehow I manage. Maybe scoring game music really meant a big leap musicwise for me ;)
oZostomia: there are many pieces of musical art that can be my best. "Best" is relative :)
krazykrok: Wow, I don't believe it, my second 10! :D Thanks man. Yeah, I had been thinking about soundtracks, but LotR escaped my mind at the moment. Silly me :)
Viba: I took the mp3 choirs from my Myst III data folder and inserted them into the mp3 by way of Adobe Audition. (or if you refer to the muslim chants, those are from both Myst III and Medieval Total War)

Haven't you checked the ID3 tag?

Yeah, the tight mix is due to my idea of going for a slight claustrophobic mood, in keeping with the Dark Forest theme.

I was afraid I'd end up packing to many things at once and make a rambling mess. Well, good to know I didn't :excited:

But... 2 favorites? I don't believe it.

If you guys like this so much, also give "Untergrund" a try. You won't regret it
MemberProvos [13th. February 18:38] [206.74.116.165]

musical art!

Perfect work done here!
