That guy that smashes bytes (experimental) |

I figure it's about time I reviewed this track, as I think it deserves to have way more than a 8.75 total review score.
This song is a 10, and here's why:
Arrangement - 10
This song's got an epic intro, a kickass beat, a powerful lead, and enough variation to make aphex twin envious
Bass - 10
If it's got enough bass to shake my speakers, it's fine by me. Seriously though, the bass in this song rules for one reason: it's unique. I've never heard a bassline that was as...well.... neat sounding as this one. You've got some nifty gating going on with it, and it varies quite a bit. This bassline is one of the main things that makes this song pwn so much.
Beat - 10
This is big beat like I've never heard it on CTG. This beat rivals that of the Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers. It's just kick-ass. That's all there is to it.
Creativity - 10
Anyone who manages to put this kind of track together is a creative genius. End of story.
Drums - 10
As I said in beat. The drums kick ass. They're perfectly fit to the tune. Just the right amount of effect at the right time. Nicely EQd. The bass kick makes me feel like dancing, and the snare hits at exactly the right moments to keep me paying attention... not that I need help doing that
Feeling - 10
Makes me feel like engaging in a long night of.... uh.... dancing... yah... that's it. Seriously though, this track feels like raw pwnage... if you could put it to music that is.
Melody - 10
What? The big orchestral opening wasn't enough??? You want MORE do you???? Well, hold on to your seat, because between the nasty (in a good way) lead synths that dance around your head, and the background stringlike ambience is about to take you away. The rapid, constantly changing leads are really one of the best parts of this song. They almost sing to you. They did sing to me once. I swear it really happened. I'm not crazy.
Samples - 10
Top quality all the way. They all fit the composition. Even all the vocal samples fit. The "Grab your head" sample (or whatever it says) is placed thoughout the song at pivotal points so that it sticks in your head like oh so many other techno anthems. The plethora of other ambient noise samples fit in very nicely to the soundscape. Oh... those weren't samples??? I was just hearing things??? Well, you won't tell anyone, will you?
Skills - 10
LMFAO. No, there's no lack of skills here. The only lack of skills would be on my behalf as a reviewer.... well, and as a competing musician. Seriously, how am I EVER supposed to top this?!
Sound - 10
God these common words are redundant ... of course it sounds good. What do you think I've been going on about this whole review
Structure - 10
Ok... Perhaps this isn't redundant, but I can't really say much for it other than that the song has excelent structure for it's style. Even if it wasn't good for it's style, it sounds damned good, so who the heck cares?! TEN!!!!
Quality - 10
*Yawn*... 10.
Overall - 10
That's right folks. There ain't no denying that this track kicks some royal ass. Some unroyal ass too as my ass isn't particularily royal. Truth be told, there hasn't been one day since I downloaded this track that I haven't listened to it. I seriously think it's up there in quality with the big boys. You guys should be seriously proud of this piece. GOOD JOB

this tune is really disjointed...in epic proportions.. somehow you pull it off...it holds together well.. On the first listen though, its difficult to get your head around the busyness of the tune.. I wonder about the orchestral intro..
.certainly original
The heart of the tune is the breakbeat sound with square wave basses and leads...grinding....
I sense quite a lot of time and patience have been put into the arrangement..there is so much stuff going on here..how long did this thing take to make...melody has strong presence....
Im not sure about the clap your hands vox, i dont think i could clap my hands to this...and dare I say it, its a little over used.
Overall, this tune seeps creativity..and is strong in arrangement and originality..Solid mixdown
I not so keen on the intro, otherwise all good..

This intro is something else man!!! I Really have no idea whats coming around the corner, and that's a good thing. The percussion work just after is just amazing, really. It sounds very crisp and every single element has a place not only in the stereo field but also in the frequency spectrum!
I love that screaming lead sound, its mastered properly (but resembles a slightly over used Pro53 preset). I do agree that some of the melodies seem kinda random and don't really have an inherent progression, though this could easily be by design in this genre. But saying that calling and answering is still being done! Madness.
The fact that you guys sequenced this in Renoise is really amazing to me hats of for one! Anyhow this masterpiece really shines in the technical department. I can tell that you guys tried to perfect everything and it definitely shows in the final product. Nicely done
Chris

visionz here,
I must admit that rarely do I listen to a track and keep it saved on my HD. When I heard the intro I thought it was going to be a melodic track with some nice orchestral sounds all coming together. I was surprised. The first words in my mind was 'Whoa" and the second was "sweet"..
Very good track. I like it. I love the main lead which changes mid track to a bass-like sound instead of being a lead, which then goes incredibly well with the lead synth that just "screams" all over the place.
I like your transition at 3:48 or so. And really in mind I thought, "cmon, push those beats!"....I could Imagine some really fast and crazy beats coming from that sequence. It would be really cool if you could add additional beats there, possibly some IDM influences so that the high hat can really flutter and bassdrum can really pan allover for that fast, crazy sequencing...the beat you have has such a perfect setup for it.
The beats is awesome..I got into the rythm..bopping head and all.
great work. I can't really suggest anything specific, accept maybe just some additional beat patterns, especially at 3:48 when you introduce a slight warm break from the madness. I can picture it in my mind. Also, I like the snare you used here, but I was thinking of maybe getting a stronger snare, with that added "kch"..
Excellent work nonetheless.

You have a new review!
- nice evil atmosphere
- well programmed drumbeats
- great work fusing many styles together
- the lead melodies sound kinda random
- I have doubts about the thick snare sample
Comments
Hmm, what crazy sounds will emerge from this collaboration? As channeled through Winamp and my brain, der review
Kewl orchestral bits, and then the song breaks into a really cool part, with electro pads and choirs with vocoder or something (they sound like they're on drugs anyway ), which is exactly what Danny Elfmann would sound like on drugs...
The bass sound is very thick. I like that.
The drums come in. Nicely programmed. Have a certain "random" feeling, but they have a rather loose cohesion. Samples are nice, though I have my doubts about the thick snare sample. The melodies are really menacing, and evil. Another good point
Though... the lead melodies sound like they don't have the loose cohesion the drumbeats have. Still, they contribute nicely to the atmosphere.
The atmosphere. Not much to say. The'res a lot of stuff going on and stuff... and well... it's very experimental... and... well, it rocks
Good work guys. Will definately listen to this again
The final analysis
arrangement 9/10
bass 10/10
beat 10/10
creativity 10/10
drums 10/10
feeling 10/10
melody 8.5/10
samples 9/10
skills 9.5/10
sound 9/10
structure 8/10
quality 10/10
How I would improve
1. well... conceive other lead melodies
2. use another snare sample |

I agree Kcirr3d...
I'm also very proud. This is by far the "rawest" track I have ever had the pleasure to work on. |

| Samples are a bit off, and a bit early sometimes, its way distorted, but it might be suposed to, but in my subjective opinion, it sounds horrible. Other than that, not much to say, nice |

Technically this is great, sounds very good and must have been a lot of work . However I dindn't liked it much probably because I don't enjoy breakbeat that much and the main melody synth somewhat put me off. Still an interesting listen and loved the intro! 7.5/10

Thanks for the great feedback Sounvisionz. I'm really glad you enjoy the track! But come on now...with cover art that features a SEWER, how could you be lead to think this is going to be some prissy orchestral track?!?! :-P I see what you're saying about taking the drums up a notch after that breakdown and building up to bringing back the main synths at 4:10. We might just look into that! :-)
BYTE-Smasher: Thank you too for your feedback. As for the ambiance int he background...umm...well placed verbs on the leads and stuff I suppose. There's also lots of little orchestral hits, FX, and stuff like that going on with longer verbs on them, which I suppose you would percieve as an airy ambiance. The pads that are in the intro I believe are done with a VSTi called 'Albino'.
Thanks again everyone! |

Holy crap! This track rules!..... just the way it is... no other snare sample is needed... and the lead sounds great!
The beats are awesome, the bass drum might have needed a bit more kick, but it still sounds good the way it is. What did you guys use for the nice airy ambiance in the background??
Either way, congrats on this track... it's really really omgwow. |
