As promised, I'm back to add my 2 pence worth!
It's a redheat tune. It's epic. It's everything I would expect it to be, and here's why:-
It's been a year now since I first heard this, and as with the fantastic Discovery, I've taken the same approach with reviewing it - take a years worth of listening, to see if I still feel the same way. I have to say, I dont feel the same about it, as I did last year - it's grown more on me.
The tune starts off nice and slow, and builds into some sort of grand party of some sort, then suddenly the mood changes, and a kind of sadness fills the air... There is a fanfare that offers hope, then suddenly the entire track turns into a mad struggle for survival, the tempo gets fast, the melodies get fast, and BAM, in drop one a fabulous piano melody, which itself goes fanfare itself, still with the high energy tempo, and it's incredibly gorgeous on my ears... Inspiring, definately. Inspiring. Makes you want to get up from the lazy chair and do somethign amazing for yourself... You can't though, how could you leave this tune?. Impossible. at 3:26, the tempo drops, the mad rush is over, and we're now treated to a mellow part, with some victorious bells playing over some pizzacato plucks, which lead into a short melody, and then, lead to a slow build, with some crystal sounding glockenspiel melody.... its amazingly epic...Suddenly, there is the start of something, a march starts to play away in the backgound, slowly building, then .... then.......BANG in comes darkness, really eerie sounds play, like you're lost in a dark forrest at midnight, and something is chasing you. It's really something, and it keeps you right there at the end of your seat. Trust me, music was made for telling stories, and redheat shows he is a master of his game. After the darkness, the is a oboe? lead, chased by a violin, then without warning, the theme changes swiftly to a very immensly playful tune, like some sort of hobgoblins drinking, arguing, fighting, andf generally being silly and obnoxious.... Awesome. And there we have it. The tune is sadly, over.
Overall this track is a brilliant as it is technically excellent and audially orgasmic. I cannot think of a single reason to not give this less than 10/10, because to me, it's flawless. A year ago, I couldn't help make comparisons to Discovery, and that is the main reason I chose to wait a year to review it. I was right to do this, because today, there are no comparisons to be made, this has nothing to do with Discovery, this is Escape From Marwinia! and I wont ever forget it.

Excellent work. It's the best piece I've heard from here. I really don't know how I can analyze it. It's one of those pieces of music that's better listened to than picked apart for all of its little nuances.
The transitions between the slower parts and the faster parts was excellent. I loved the instrument choice, but as the others here I felt the piano was a bit too bright than the music itself called for. I personally would have chosen a darker sound for the piano or tried out a string patch on the melody.
Overall, I can't fault the composition. The piano as mentioned was too bright, but really didn't detract me too much from the feel of the piece. Amazing work! Keep it up! |

nice folk/walz inspired theme in this! the sounds are nice! the elements are working together! creative work on the melodies that come i with the flutes 0.55...tha goes over to a nice bridge with a change in mood! nice!!! the piano goes well there! the composer has ears for structure and skilled! the transitions to this dance/rock inspired piece is just fantastic! wow! I bow my head here! teh piano melody is great! I recommend everyone to here this! very heroish theme here! abit vangelis inspired in m y ears...i can be wrong, but to me it sounds like that! nice easy transition on 3.26 to a nice warm harmony! the belle chimes is very nice! the sounds sound acoustic and real! the mastering is very good! the arrangment is top notch! it's been a whiles since i've been amazed by a classical arrangment! and it's not often I listen to this genre! but I would keep my ears ut for your songs! the dramatic melody that comes in at 5.42 gives me the chills! THE PICTH EFFECT TO the sounds is very nice creative touch!
My verdict: 10! to me this song is a mashup of redheats archive of creativity and skills! a very nice application to the music section in paramoun pictures or to a gamedeveloper! if you haven't thought about sending out a demo before...do it NOW! |

What a charming piece of music. You obviously have good understanding of harmonies and of how to put an orchestral piece togehter..
I appreciate the gentle panning..the drums are really cool..
Hmm the big change here with the beat...changesw form orchestarl to new age..like the xylopphone and the paino.
very professionally produced but its in its struture where I must admit to be ing totally impressed..
The transitions betweeen movments are pretty much seemless. Ad eserved high score and high chart rating.. Excellent

You get the honor of being my first review
For a great majority of this song you did an excellent job bringing out the emotional aspect of song-storytelling. You can really almost see the 'hero''s journey to escape from Marwinia. However, I agree with the other review in thinking that the piano is much too bright for the one area of the song, while it doesn't take away from the quality, it does break the image in our minds slightly...is this to symbolize the hero's weakness?
The transistions from each part of the songs, from the hard driving to the soft again, is very impressive, I love how you pulled that off. While I'm not a very accomplished song writer myself, I know a fantastic song when I hear it! And this is most definately a song to keep on hand
Lessie, best part to this song? 3:30-5:25! You did a wonderful job controlling the sound of the bells
You deserve the rating you recieved for this! Keep up the great work! |

New review!
My two cents for the Fantasy genre
I have to agree with Louigi's review here, you're a composer and producer who's much more advanced than the other crowd here, it'll be very difficult to give you much advise for improvements. Comparing to other reviews I've written, I simply can't judge you the same, you're far beyond the scale here. So I will sharpen up my knifes, I'll increase my level of criticism, and henceeforth I hope I'll be of some help to you, and this review would not have been in vain.
First impression: Wow. I was wordless when I was hearing the tune for the first time. There's so much detail, so many different themes, instruments and combinations, and all so well thought over... I've not heard such a good composition in ages. I could go on saying good things about this song, but I'll really try to find things I would change to make this song perfect.
The piano sample is a bit too electric / bright for this song. I would have chosen a warmer sound, perhaps a dimmed grand piano. I also have the impression that the reverb of the piano is a bit unrealistic. I'd have turned it a bit down, but it's not that important, it doesn't destroy the song
That part starting at 2:24 is a bit too agressive. Those 7 fortissimo chords sound also a bit too exaggerated. It's not the piano in this case, but the orchestra playing on the behind. The idea itself is great, but productionwise it doesn't sound *that* good.
At 4:10 I hear some sort of ocarina on the very back doing a large pitch bend down. Is that a real instrument? I don't know one that can do a pitch bend of over an octave. Again, sounds great! But it takes away the realism of the orchestra ambient.
I really love the part starting at 6:50. Very expressive, very emotional. You really impressed me with this one.
The pizzicatto strings at 7:53 sound also a bit unreal, perhaps it's because they're playing these fast notes. But a real orchestra would sound differently.
Little complaint about the ending. It's OK. But you've built such a high building, with such a solid base, and you only covered the top with a small brick roof. I'd have hoped for a more happier and pleasant ending with a fading emotional line. But that's just me.
I've heard this song 7 times now for this review. Honestly I can't find any more production flaws. The composition itself is perfect for me, taking that you wanted the ending that way. I don't need to comment on the sample realism, we all know that a computer will never replace an orchestra. But if you someday make an orchestra perform this tune, I promise I'll try my best to come and listen.
I name this a CTG Jewel, one of the few rares you'll ever find.
Overall score: 10

This is a tune that I don't want to analyze. You know, you listen to a tune and your reviewing experience organizes the tune into pieces of how it's build, what instruments used, etc. However, it usually kills the pleasure of a good tune. While generally advices may be useful to a beginner, a more advanced composer needs different things, or more serious in depth advices which I cannot give, since I'm just not that qualified.
But music is written to be appreciated by non-professionals too, right? So we'll be going about this tune from the point of view of a listener. Yo!
First of all, if you are still hesitating - get this tune immediately! This tune is absolutely great, one of the best works I've heard from CTG!
Surprises!
Yep, this tune is full of them. While listening to it, several times I was shocked to hear a neat clever melody or a sudden passage or a perfectly oiled arrangement. The reason for these surprises is because we are not used to such music coming from CTG - it has dynamics, tempo changes, varying chord progressions, sudden change of mood or instrument choices.
Really, we are used to a tune having a simple idea (chorus) and some subthemes (verses), and from the first minutes the idea of the track is quite predictable. The choice of instruments will probably stay the same as will the tempo.
It is totally different in expressive music, like this tune. It's so good when music is alive, free, not imprisoned to some conditions...
Composition.
This tune actually develops. If I ever bragged about the need to develop your tune and loosely compared it to "telling a story" - well, this is what I meant.
You are taken to an absolutely magnificent journey, starting off and not really knowing where will it all lead you.
At the same time it's not like these are just several unconnected tunes, no. The whole point of development is probably preserving the integrity of the piece somehow. Don't ask me how, ask m0d! He managed it wonderfully! I have no words to support this.
Conclusion
I am an emotional person, probably as a music lover/composer should be.
This is an amazing tune, it's simply one of the best I've heard to this day. There is a lot to learn for me from this, but what is really important: this tune is fun to listen too!
It has beautiful melodies, lots of them, a whole palette of moods, from calm and epic to alarmed and victorious, it is so full of music, you want to listen to it again and again!
Also, this tune tells a story. A story that ends well.
Mister composer, thank you for this revelation. |

When I first heard this on traxinspace, I couldn't figure out why it had such an effect. Well recently I discovered an old show I watched as a kid. The section changes and the get-s**t-done attitude. All this composition needs is duct tape and a Swiss Army Knife.
They're doing a MacGyver movie for 2012. I don't know if the star will make an appearance, but this sort of soundtrack would be the perfect ambiance for it. |

Hey Xtrim, nice to see you around again by the way. My comment I posted has also made it's way into the Diary section. I think you raised some superb points and as you know I leave the reviewing option open on the tracks to assist in opening dialogue with those very people who stop, listen, and then listen again. It actually intrigues me to a great degree that what I make in musical terms manages to convey something to someone else. It's important for me to also make my personal perspective very clear aswell, as by the offerings I've posted on CTG demonstrate that I really do like to have some fun sometimes with Lalalaa and such Music to me is indeed an escapement, and sharing it with you folks is far more superior than just bunging it onto a CD in my collection and letting it collect dust.
So, my kudos go out there to all who brave the realms of putting their hearts work out there for all to see. You never know, good things do happen, who knows what will end where.
Take good care and thanks again for contiuing this very nice dialogue exchange. |

A very nice post you made there, m0d. I mostly agree with you. Just a little remark by side: Reviews are only personal opinions of the listeners. With my review I just shared my opinion. Sure it was up to you what you made with your song, and by now I'm 100% sure that everything you did was because you wanted it to be like that, and I know how to appreciate that.
Me myself too, I compose for me and not for others. Sometimes I compose by and through others, if I get influenced, and I channel feelings into music, but it's still something I do for me. I think, music can be very personal sometimes, and it's often that kind of music that is extraordinary.
Anyway, I honestly think that your point of view is well based. And that you know how to make music sound great. |

RedHeat [19th. May 12:22] ![[84.24.128.82]](pics/ip.gif)
Thanks for the reviews. Much appreciated and obviously deeply thoughtful of you to actually write here
Now for something completely different. A bit of a back-story, partially in relation to this song but related to all of my songs overall.
Ok, to start off I'd like to say that I only make music with what equipment I have available, and that I prefer to keep the hybrid sound of imperfection rather than really trying to sound like realistic orchestra and failing miserably when the driving composition doesn't deliver. I suppose you could put me in the grey area between "fucking hell, that's supposed to be orchestral but it's synthetic!". A nice example of someone else who does this is one of my inspirational mentors, Mike Oldfield.
Back to the review(s), and the comments I'm receiving about the pizzicato instrument. I personally favour that pizzicato instrument simply because it conjures the exact atmosphere I wanted to hear, it contrasts to a realistic one of sampled quality which would a) not deliver the sound I want to have and b) probably cost an arm and a leg. I can see in the overall picture you agree with me, but I think having this as a bit of back-story helps you understand where I am and will continue to come from with future compositions. As a side note, my wife plays final fantasy games, the music in those has a similar use of pizzicato.
It has to be said that it is true that lots of musicians pirate sounds these days now that more and more instruments are being driven from a CPU and not a real piece of hardware, which would normally give the musicians a sense of cost, a sense of investment and ultimately a sense of pride in their tools.
By now you probably have realized that I work with hardware synthesizers, of which cost a lot of money. I absolutely detest PC plug-in/VST type instruments because I don't feel them, literally. What comes with investing in proper hardware is the satisfaction of being able to be tactile and immersed with an instrument. As we all know, hardware is hardware and once it's been built you have pretty limited upgrade/modification possibilities (a few exceptions are samplers, obviously), which is actually where some of the beauty is. I feel these "limitations" actually make me work a little harder to get what I want out of my investment. To be honest, I rarely hear anyone that owns the same gear as me getting the full potential out of it; even I have some way to go yet! (hehe). Yet today’s culture of free plugins, piracy and the fact that many musicians expect others to keep up with them with the latest and greatest sounds, I find extremely saddening. I haven't had any financial return in terms of music composition, so I am going to stick with what gear I have and will continue to use that to compose future released.
Now, I'd like to reference an artist you probably already know very well here, Kevin (Gopher) Chow has those sounds you want to hear in an orchestra. Real and very expensive. Alongside that, he has some of the most elaborate and intricate engineering and composition in his pieces. He's the type of chap who has invested money in his tools, and is now reaping from that investment the reward of composing music that sounds exactly how he wants to hear it. Which is more or less the same angle I am coming from. I imagine that when Gopher releases a track he is constantly aware that because of the nature of composition - orchestral - people will try and judge it in comparison with a real life symphony orchestra. That's a mighty risk to take, but in retrospect it has also pushed Gopher to new levels of musicianship, because I imagine, that's the direction he wants to go: perfection.
In contrast, I feel that the instruments I choose to use, the way I choose to play them and the overall composition is totally up to me, I am oblivious to people pigeon holing instruments to only play this way or that. Obviously there has to be some sense of realism, and sure enough I try and include that. For example, there are indeed pipe instruments that you can actually bend, pan flutes included. To the virgin ear this may be "weird and unreal" but in fact it's just a sound that builds the bigger picture and atmosphere of the composition.
You have to remember that when I compose music, it isn't actually for you guys or anyone else in particular. It's ultimately for myself, so obviously what sounds perfect to me might not necessarily sound perfect to you - which is fine. But with this in mind, don't be asking me (not that you are) to change things based on an opinion I would never agree on.
Again, thanks for the reviews and I hope you enjoyed the unusually long read from me

there is no doubt that I love redheats music from the bottom of my heart. In this tune, just a tip, its a bit subjective as well as objective: The pizz sounds way synthetic, but then again, it does somewhat fit to this tune
I love the tune mate |

Having a name which has no connection at all with this song, I must say the same stuff I said on the channel: It starts off fairly mundane, almost a bit ambient.. only to turn into what I'd best describe a hardcore orchestral song. Then, it goes limp for a while, almost going ambient again, then towards the end.. it sort of goes into a mixed styles pattern, like you were trying out alot of small song snippets.... strange indeed!
But, I still say this song is *very* cool!

Yeah, an escape from the crazy stupid music I do for once.. No offence John (note: The title is fictional, any correlation of the title with any real persons or places is totally coincidental!) |

Was Marwinia intentional? That might be laying it on bit thick though

| It's fantastic to hear a track like this on CTG. It's really excellent and I'd certainly give this a 9.5 if/when I review it (and I don't give out 9's or greater unless it's damned good). |

This is a fantastic song that goes beyond measures imo. I really enjoyed the entire song tho I was wondering if it was any possiblity to get a solo file of that piano cuz it found a way to my heart . So if there is any possibilty you have my deepest thanks. |

This tune is the absolute sexual. The piano melodies in the first half of the tune blew me away. Excellent production from start to finish... I'll review this at some point for sure, but only when I've had chance to fully listen over and over and over... which is something I shall be doing . Fantastic work, well worth the 18 months wait. |
