Rock-ish newage sound inspired by the soundtrack for Cryo's DUNE. Comments and reviews welcome.
"And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it." - Revelation 21:18-24 |

Very nice track. This is one of the few non-dance tracks I have put in my mp3 player.
Things I like: I like the start until the snaredrum, like the piano and the sitar'ish sound (audiable at 1:49) iin particular. The song has a nice composition too I think.
Things neutral about.
Things I don't like: The snaredrum at 1:05, I mean that particular one not it's placement in the song. It sounds a little cardboard-like to me. Easy to eq out with a parametric eq though. The clap also has some peak that irritates me (mostly in the reverb).
At 1:12 there comes in a lead that has to much volume in my opinion and kindof overwhelms the guitar. It's like they are batteling for who gets to be in the songs forground.
Lastly I think the guitar lead gets a little too much and buries some sounds at 3:15. And at 4:45 I think it just gets too much.
I think the best advice I can think of here is "sometimes less is more".
Overall this is not a bad track at all, although it has some conflicts I don't like. Almost all the problems I mentioned were eq and mixing related so I think that should be a good place to start if you wanna improve your skills. I like the idea and composition though and you seem very skilled at it, but you obviously need some mixing practice.
I hope this helps.
Regards
Tyr

A wonderous musical adventure. -The intro is good as if one were coming upon the beach of a wonderous city. There is an uplifting bridge in the music which carries the person on a set of musical wings. The drums are a good accompaniment. Their sound is subtle yet do not drift too far into the background, but stay up front enough to provide a good grounding for the ethereal synthesiser sounds. I am a big fan of Dune so perhaps that is why I can see myself on a magic carpet ride of sorts through a stunning landscape. The music in itself is very tranguil. I like the intense crescendo near the end. It's not meant to be a bad thing, but it sounds, at some points a little too john teshish. but who isn't to say that is a bad thing? Perhaps an addition of some string or wind instruments would help this piece. There is a lot of creativity here, and the music tells a story. Perhaps a good begining to a trance opera. The sound quality is good. A lot of effort went into this piece and it shows. A definate addition to anyone's musical library. |

This song, like all your others, makes me wonder what exactly is stopping you from pursuing a career in creating videogame soundtracks |
