I tried to come up with a summer-like chillout track. The basics are similar to my song called 'Blossom', but this song is longer and has some additional sounds like percussions, soundscapes and a pan flute. Enjoy it, and let me hear! |

This is lush, very lush. It's really a very simple piece of music, based around a single looped sequence and some emotive chords, with various instruments and effects coming and going over the top, but it's all done with enough panache that you can't help but like it.
The beginning introduces the chords over some tinkly bells in the background, and the main sequence soon joins in. This is where you turn down the lights, hit the recline button on your chair, and chill out to the music. Trouble is, just as you're getting swept away it all seems to end. An interlude at only 2.20 just as the percussion is entering seems a little odd on first listen, and a couple of listens later you start to get used to it but it does seem to come before the piece has really established itself. It doesn't help that the music fades out almost entirely over a soulful pan flute - sounds great, but perhaps later on?
But no need to worry because over a tinkly piano and subtle guitar the percussion, sequence and chords start to come back again and all is well with the world. By the 4.15 mark we could be listening to something from Deep Forest except without the ethnic chanting. I did feel that more could have been done from this point onwards, though - a more distinct melody, greater presence and impact. I know it's supposed to be a downtempo chillout song, but it just screamed to be ranked up a notch at this point. As it is, it feels a little bit like a lost opportunity to really flesh out the song.
Mixing and mastering are ok, but perhaps a bit more presence particularly in the lower frequencies would have helped. The percussion seemed a little too laid back in the mix, although it fitted the style of the song reasonably well though. Good use of spatial separation and panning. |
