Artist Comment:
Usually my songs come from a story, but this song didn't. Fortunately there is a story about the song.

I always wanted to use a Cylon in a song, so I sampled an old school Battlestar Galactica episode. It came from a lame interrogation scene, and with Audacity I was able to remove all the background noise quite well. I tried forever to integrate the sample in a song, but it never ever fit.

Another time I was working with this melody I created. I was flipping through a vst instruments presets when all of the sudden I hit one preset that was mono. Anyways the bottom notes of my chords sounded much better by themselves. I combined the melody with my samples and Nervous Impulses (which is a phrase I thought was in the interrogation scene, but wasn't) was born.

However since this song didn't come from my regular process, its development was problematic. I had a bunch of awesome samples and instruments assembled, but the progression throughout the song took about three months (off and on of course) to assemble. I went back and forth, constantly taking things out and putting them back in. There was about 15 minutes of finished music, but only 5:45 went in the final mix.

In the end the final mix sounded horrible. The song progressed well, but the quality was horrible. I had used a bunch of great instruments that filled the entire sound spectrum, so they all muddied each other up.

Almost six months later I've tried to do what I can to repair it. I've learned a thing or two since I finished the song last time but this song is just mest up. Every time I tried to add a filter to the track, the whole quality of the song changed and something was lost. I know I used toooooo much compression, and it can really show at times. The worst part : Since I am using so many VSTs and my computer is old, I've had a ton of crashes -- often causing me to lose work that I couldn't recreate. The last time I rendered my song, my computer started smelling like burnt toast. It would take a major effort to get this song close to perfect, and I think I'm spent.

Why did I put this song up? Despite all of the flaws in this song, I #*@!ing love it. I can hear this song a million times in a row and never get bored. It and the Breakup are my all time favorites.

Hello nice to meet you!

Can I just say this song is really nice.
Really well-chosen synths, sombre key-changes

Amazing atmospherics, I think it's more Industrial Ambient than techno, but that's just me.

Best things about this track :-

1 - the Cylon sample...makes the track a little different!
2 - atmospherics - the pads and key changes are almost beautiful
3 - complexity of track - both in melodies and percussion

Those are the good things about the track. Normally I would go onto bad things but to be honest I can't really think of anything bad per se. However, there is one thing I would have liked on the track, and that is some huge explosion in beat at the latter half of the track. I'm not a trancer at all, and am not a huge dance music fan, but something about this song wants me to enjoy an ascendo of beat and percussion with an allmighty bass overdose towards the end! The atmospherics and synth lines are so amazing in this song that when I listen to the song, I feel that I would almost be 'complete' jumping up and down with my arms waving in the air, while listening to the great tune.

so, i'll give this song a 9. As the song stands, it is very excellent indeed. You don't really need to change anything as far as I'm concerned, but perhaps if it had that extra 'something' that would (in my eyes) turn the tune into something that extra special with amazing re-playability, then I would give it a 9.5 or even a 10 ;o)

Hope review has been useful, great track, will now have to listen to your other stuff ;o)

All the best,

Rob

The mono Pulse synth you have driving the melody is a perfect pick. I also like the crunchy staccato synth you have driving the progression along in parts of it. Great work!
