Abdelmoumen presents a beautifully written orchestral overture in a film-esque style. The piece opens with a very new-age choral pad sitting underneath some beautiful french horns. The french horns, choir, piano, and strings are the main elements in this piece that sit very well with a stunning percussion line.

This is definitely the sort of composition that works extremely well with a story element on top of it, and the melodies and harmonies that the brass instruments provide really make a clear point of this. There are plenty of dissonances that are extremely well written throughout this piece, which really drives it to its full potential.

Unfortunately, the repetitive nature of the percussion becomes an issue for me as the piece draws to a close. This, however, is something I only noticed on multiple listens, and didn't seem to upset me on my first experience of this mix. Another disappointing feature of this piece of music is the sudden end with an orchestral hit whose volume and sound quality simply does not mix well with the rest of the piece, which, if I haven't mentioned, is of astounding quality.

There are a few particular issues in the sound quality for the audiophiles, however, namely being in the strings and choir samples. The choir samples are very dark in the bass and create the new-age sound I mentioned. This sits well in the piece, but subtracts from the realism provided by the stunning horns and percussion. The use of a piano written with parallel strings also does away with the previously established realism. This is most apparent at 2:28 when the piano plays two handed and the strings follow suit.

For the average listener, however, this is a gargantuan track. Musically, the only particular qualm I'd present are the ostinato of the rhythms in their long segments and the parallel piano and string writing which seems cliche in new-age writing. (I saw new-age here, because I feel as though these elements stray away from the orchestral realism otherwise achieved in the piece).

As a fellow digital-orchestral composer, I'd recommend looking into some professional sample libraries, such as East West's Symphonic Orchestra library or Vienna. I only suggest these in the search for realism, however, and my suggestion should not be seen as a notice to any poor quality in this mix. The sound sits extremely well, and besides that last orchestral hit, this is a stunning piece of production.

In the end, I have to rate this a 8.5 for a disappointing finish and the things I mentioned above. This is definitely worth a download and listen, if not a permanent add to your orchestral collection.
