Sundown, the UK's only demo party is being held from 11th-13th September and will be running the usual competitions for those at the party, as well as (and here is the important bit) allowing Remote Entries for the streaming music competition

This means, you are invited to participate even if you're staying at home.

The only difference with remote entries is that you miss out on an incredibly friendly party, which would probably be really great for those looking to mingle with like-minded musicians and sceners. It's also a missed opportunity for those people looking to get into the demoscene in general.

You will still get your tune played on the PA, slide shown on the big screen, and an audience listening*

Read on...

* If there is a huge turnout, there will be pre-selection which means some tracks may not be entered into the competition (see the compo rules for clarification). Generally, it's best to actually turn up at the party to be sure!

The rules are on the Sundown Website and quoted here for quick reference. You are advised to keep check on the site for changes or developments which may occur between the posting of this article and the time the party is held.

Please note that there is an unwritten rule that your entry must not have been released before that includes appearances on the internet. It must be 'new'.

Streaming Music Compo (this means music that's recorded into MP3/OGG, no realtime generation such as music modules/chip music etc)

* Allowed Formats: MP3, OGG, Mpeg-4 or MusePack
* Renoise RNS or XRNS only if there are NO VST's (if they are used, encode to another format)
* We support Renoise up to the very latest version
* 5 Minutes Maximum
* We reserve the right to fade tracks that are highly repetitive
* We reserve the right to preselect works and disqualify them from party presentation (but we will NOT release your works publicly)

UPDATE: Even at this early stage indications are that due to the number of entries from party attendees (whom have priority) it may mean that the option for remote entries is dropped - unless you arrange with rc55, the organizer to allow your remote entry into a pre-selection. If you're really up for it, try it!

Other Music Compos at the Party

4ch MOD

* Size limit is 880KB
* Must be a 4-channel Protracker / Soundtracker module
* Please keep the length to a maximum of around 3m30s. Longer modules that clearly can't be cut shorter will be allowed, but if your song is five minutes of repeated gabber drumloops, expect little sympathy. Remember that tunes which don't bore the tits off the audience win votes!
* There will be some preselection - if your module isn't played, you'll be notified and it won't be distributed or released in any way.
* Modules will be played from Protracker 3.62 on an Amiga 1200 with the filter OFF and all other settings as default. This will be projected on the bigscreen, and any messages you leave in the sampletext will be scrolled through for the audience to read.
* Modules will be played in MONO, partly because of the wide stereo spread of the hall's PA and partly because there's no universal agreement on the 'right' amount of stereo separation for Amiga audio. The organisers won't have time to cater to everyone's specific panning requirements, so the final judgement is MONO.
* In the unlikely event that all Amigas in the partyhall simultaneously and spontaneously combust, we reserve the right to play the modules from XMPlay on Windows with Ramping ON, Interpolation OFF, stereo separation at 0% and with no DSP or autogain.
* We will fade highly repetitive modules and modules which are obviously looping.
* Entries must be submitted at the party or via email to (rc55 at rc55@rc55.com, subject heading: 'sundown094chmod' ?).
* Remote entries are welcome.

Chiptune

* Intended for 8bit/chipsynth/synthtracked modules, e.g. sid/ahx/adlib/hively/snd/sndh/nsf/ym/ay etc. Not V2/4klang/etc.!
* May contain samples - such as YM digidrums - but may not be exclusively sample-based.
* Be sure to advise us of your playback requirements - we'll do our best to accommodate them.
* Accompany the module with a rendering of your song in MP3 or OGG, in case for some reason we can't replay the module accurately.
* In exceptional circumstances, or in the case of Gameboy (LSDJ/Nanoloop) songs, where it is impossible to send a module, you should just send an mp3. There must be NO extra processing, DSP or effects on this rendering, or else the song will be disqualified.
* Please keep the length to a maximum of around 3m30s. Longer modules that clearly can't be cut shorter will be allowed, but if your song is five minutes of repeated gabber loops, expect little sympathy. Remember that tunes which don't bore the tits off the audience win votes!
* There will be some preselection - if your module isn't played, you'll be notified and it won't be distributed or released in any way.
* As a last resort - if we can't rustle up the hardware or if hardware breaks down - we'll play Other Oldschool Music entries under emulation or via XMplay/similar.
* Not sure about your chosen format? Ask ahead in the forums, or email for advice.
* Remember: if in any doubt, the best thing you can do is to be detailed and explicit when emailing us queries or your actual entry.
* Entries must be submitted at the party or via email to (rc55 at rc55@rc55.com, subject heading: 'sundown094chmod' ?).
* Remote entries are welcome.

Yeah although it looks like the golden egg might have cracked rather early on, although other compos are open i'm really not sure about the streaming music compo for remote entries now that so much interest has been shown. I guess whoever wants to compete has to get in there early before the orgas shut off the possibility.
