What can I say, GREAT points there!
Shortly, I would say that... Right now the site is somehow "turned to itself", a site between artists only, and Doriath suggestions were to "turn it out" to the public. Both things are good in different ways I would say, the question is how to balance this.... Ok I feel I'm a bit deep tonight, but maybe you see what I mean. |

My opinion about the moderation on forum (if somebody cares): |
I agree with you what you mentioned here.
I was the one that suggested the chat forum! But I though that we already had one... Or at least a forum named "Chat".
|
The thing with creating a staff of reviewers is a good idea, but I think that not only experienced sceners can be good reviewers. There can be people that just came to the scene and just discovered this community, but also can create great and constructive reviews. |
Yeah of course, what I meant was not to make the beginners left out from the staff even if they can write good. Like I said, they can always try to join the staff
|
My idea: Let the admins see reviews of some more active reviewers here. Let them select staff considering what they make. |
I'm not sure about this. What I'm sure of though, is that almost everyone can write a hell of a lot better reviews than they do right now... Overall the quantity is great, but not the quality. Of course quantity is important, but quality may be even more important.
|
Why not judge their reviews? It could be a better way of selecting good reviewers for the community. |
Yeah, "Review on a review", huh Not a bad idea, but a hell of a lot time is needed. A waste of a hell of a lot time rather... I think not even 70% of the artists here would bet on a reviewer-career .. Dont know, just a feeling... People dont have patience. So, if this idea will be set in the reality, people will request to join the reviewer staff ...
But of course I'm just talking here..... There could not be too many Suggestions spoken though... |

@ A.K.E.: Actually I didn't think of anyone in particular when I said "more serious posts" And I'm the last one to blame people with childish posts (I was the one who started the "Fun Game" topic) It was just that I saw more constructive posts in the "Latest 25" section than usual which only means that people are participating in the discussions going on right now. So, what I wanted to say was that we "smiley spammers" are not just - quote - "A bunch of idiots" but also care about CTG. I knew before that you were capable of posting in fun topics AND serious topics Just like obScene and many others...
@ Doriath: Very decent thoughts there though some things (like live radio shows) require people who really devote themselves to this site with a lot of time and if we include Mark's criteria for an admin staff we will have a hard time finding someone. And about the main page I don't think those things will hurt though I don't mind the current version. But maybe the main page should really include some rough information about the site and what it's all about.
And about the forum, things need to be clear what the member range should be like. I mean do you want all "kids" who like to post some stupid stuff once in a while off this site? I think A.K.E.'s advice would be the way to go. It shouldn't be all about music only, even at a music site. If you get to know people and find friends here, you wanna talk about other stuff and have some fun also. So most important I wouldn't wanna trade a more serious site concept with a harmonic and fun interaction within the community. If some drastic changes are made one has to make sure that one thing isn't achieved by taking away the other. I'm sure there's a way for a compromise.

Here is my opinion as an admin and as an artist:
In order to make the site more attractive for listeners / artists, the following things could be done:
The main site
- Reorganise the main page as it is a music site. Focus the page to songs rather than new artists or news. |
Ok , but why ? Give us an example why . I don't really see a goal in this.
- Develop a recommended song list and put it to visible. Recommended songs (say 10) would be picked up by respected artists on a weekly basis from every genre. Recommended songs would be hosted by ctg and could be streamed or downloaded easily. |
CTG is not hosting songs , and songs are allready randomly picked romo songs (I think it is done by Anoxxia these days)
|
- Put the top 5 songs from chart to the main page |
We had that in the past , but charts are not important for many people .... I dunno about this idea.
|
- Eliminate promo songs from the main page. It does not mean anything to listeners |
In my opinion it does , songs get promoted iif those artists are active , and that says something !
|
- Put artist news (with good selection) to the main site |
Nice idea , I think we need to have artist of the week or something , but again , we allready got reviewer of the week also etc etc.
|
- Say clearly that it is not a trance site despite the name |
Why ? Doesn't say "music community"enough for you ? It's clear anough , and after all CTG is more trance oriantated in the first place.
Reviews
- Yes, I agree that official review would be an advantage. Each genre could have an official reviewer and there would be two rates, one by the official reviewer and one by anyone else |
I like that idea , something like beatmaka also uses .
|
- Reviews should be more controlled and the rules should be updated to make it clear what we want to see |
Yes we should stand up for bad reviews , maybe it is best to gather a review team that will monitor the reviews , I know that it will take time , but at least the reviews are fair .... let's think more about this .
Radio
- make it more live, introduce live shows |
It is easy to think , but we need someone who can play it constantly , bandwith is not easy to get for free ya know ... and with some home broadband i-net connection it is impossible to start a descent radio , we need a nice connection of a few Mbit .
Live shows is something that will not work .... maybe only when it just begins , but it will fade away .
Forum and community
- Eliminate the latest 25 topics and instead of new forum topics, put the topic title of the latest replies to the main site. In other words, let general visitors focus on our main forum topics |
Latest 25 topics is not really "latest 25 topics" it is the "latest 25 topic REPLIES"..
Now if I submit this message for example , it gets somewhere on top .
So this is allready done.
- I totally agree that forums should be treated more seriously. But let us separate two things very clearly: moderation of replies and behaviour of the people who reply |
We need to quit being childish like I stated many times before , a anti-flame or anti-insult rule will help alot ,isulting or flaming nt allowed or else get kicked from the forum .
- Develop a real community page where artists can be interviewed, where artists can win active fans |
I don't like this idea , but anyway , it will get dead in time , it will starts of nice , but people will get laisy holding it up , in the end doing stuff like this will get too many people involved as working for or as admin .
- For artists, within the community page, we should develop a resource page with things like tutorials, tutorial songs, etc. |
Those things need to be hosted , do you have space left ?
- Compos and similar events |
What holds you and others back from starting a compo ?
Other things
- Finally develop the newsletter |
Yeah I remember we were wroking on that before I left , it was almost finished .
- Clean all the content to be updated and in certain cases make it more clean and English |
People need to report bad english , since ace isn't the best in english and I wasn't eiher .... people should seport this !
I agree content needs to be updated , also we need admins to check dead links , and dead song links .
Depends on what you mean , it is impossible to just start deleting someones acoounts.
|
- Design an updated banner |
You are free to design something .
|
- Administrators should activate themselves and do the job properly what they have undertaken |
Yes , but you need GOOD admins first to do that !
|
- Site should be more promoted officially by admins and by any artists / members here with their own way |
Hehe , that is done dude ...
The list above is more or less the to do list of the administrators (except a few, which I push, but not everyone agrees). But, remember one thing: the site is operated by people, with free time, with lots of efforts. Sometimes the bottleneck is the free time, but never the ideas. We have several open forum topics for suggestions, none of the things from the previous replies of this topic, or from my list are new. Things will come and happen. Don’t worry about that. |
ok
I still say, this site is a community. That means I prefer if unwanted things are handled and removed by the community and not by a centralised administration. I have reasons to think like this. |
Then give us examples of those reasons !
A respond to Mark only:
Look dude. The thing is that you have been bitching and flaming since you officially left ctg and now you posted two ‘normal’ forum replies does not make me say hallelujah. I respect your work, you know that. But it makes me very angry if anyone acts like you did in the last few months. |
Then give me examples ! I only gave advice and shared opinions .... what is wrong with that ? Give me examples of what you mean !
I am not an experienced scener, true. Though I’m with music for 15 years or more. |
So ? What do you wanna say with that ?
|
We can argue that the site should be administrated by experienced sceners or by people like me, who can see this site with fresh mind, as a musician, and as a listener. I will quit as admin, once Ace asks me to quit, as I joined, when he asked me to join. |
Ah now I see why you are talking about that , I hurt your feelings by saying we need experience sceners as admin ?
Well we do !
|
If I hurt you, I apologise. And I even did it in the same forum. |
Hurting me takes more than this !
Keep up the good work dude , but think twice before you come with an idea or suggestion ! |

Right, I guess there is more or less everything said I've been thinking. Too bad I haven't got enough time to spent here lately....
Anyway, I think tongue issue is quite important, luckily we have Cooth who is really into english and is able to edit site contest, I wouldn't worry about that.
Reviews are now threated pretty strict, as someone might already notice. However I still suggest not to complain old reviews. When I ignored some of your complaints back then Mark, it was those old ones in question Several worst ones were deleted but the rest of the stuff is still there. No resources for complete scan
Forum needs better moderation indeed, but the rules...? I'd kick out and answers right away, simply deleting them. Only in spam area it could be acceptable.
Finally I think now this leads something. At least we have a decent conversation upon things instead of silly flaming. |

Yup! Cooth is really good, don't know how he learned english so good (can you tell me Cooth?), but still he is from Poland and I think (am I wrong?) he doesn't use this english all the time. It's obvious that english is best known by people who borned with this language and use it daily, all the time. Don't know about Cooth, but I started learning english when I was 5. And what? Today I still make various mistakes quite often, I still need a dictionary frequently. This sucks! I rather suggest someone from USA, Australia, England, or some other english-languaged country.

I might have missed something in the last days, since I haven't have much time lately to read forum posts. I come here and I see...Szartd complaining about a topic being closed!!!
1.I thought Szartd had left CTG.
2.I can't do nothing but roar in laughter when I see CTG's former number 1 topic closer complaining about a topic being closed.
3.If Szartd has left CTG because the site had gone in a different direction that he had expected, how can he criticize and suggest things? Szartd: did you live or not? If you didn't, fine. Welcome back. What I don't like is this middle thing: either you left or not. I don't care you still writing in the forums, but still seem to be an active member. Then, why did you say you were going to left? It was a circus here when you said you were leaving. |
