Can their be money and success in art?
Or is it a conflict of nature?
I am eager hear opinions on the Musician Deadmau5 and the Graffiti artist Banksy...

Well, in my opinion, Banksy has made it, he's in the thick of it and he's doing it for the right reasons as far as I can tell. He's frequently used his fame to subvert culture and is basically rewriting our artistry DNA with his shock effects.
Deadmau5 however, is, from what I remember, a fully blown arse whose only agenda is to further his own fortune and nothing else. He doesn't seem to have any other goal than to do as the rest do: get rich or die trying.
So comparing these two is like comparing Mozart with Scooter, it just won't fit.

| I would say art and money don't have a lot to do with each other. Sometimes they go hand in hand, most times not. Making money is a passion in of itself. Art is art and it requires too much time to care for money, just like science, etc. |

I find the idea that "artistic integrity" is somehow diametrically opposed to "selling out" to be an insult to all of my favourite musicians and artists. Commercialism drives art, like it or not, and anyone that claims otherwise is just bitter about the fact that nobody's willing to pay for the garbage they produce. Pointing at the few douchebag artists out there that produce crap music and get famous off it as infallible proof of your bigotry towards career musicians is like pointing at "Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2" as the sole "proof" of why all big budget movies suck. Any statistics class will tell you that pointing to statistical outliers is the worst possible proof of your hypothesis... because it's plainly a disproof, and you're just too blind to realize it.

Just think of it this way.... What's going to allow you to make better music:
1) Working a shit job so you can pay the bills and spend what little time you have composing
OR
2) Making music AS your job, so you can spend ALL your time composing
The answer to that question should be blatantly freaking obvious to anyone with more than about 3 functioning braincells
