Music/Hip Hop – Discussion 1
If you think this style is overestimated, you can state that of course, there is freedom of speech, but not in reviews for individual songs I believe. |
But I think my freedom of speech will influence my reviewing of that certain style. But maybe I’m not allowed to review hiphop then...
|
Exactly.
If you know much enough about hiphop and in your opinion a certain song isn't good in its hiphoppish category (like because it's unoriginal and just a calque of old hiphop hits), maybe you can write that. But you better have some good and reasonable arguments and stuff....
So if the main point is the lyrics, variated and complex beat would just distract you. Maybe that's the philosophy. |
Yeah I guess that’s the truth... Another art-form with other word, not pure music
|
If you want to treat it like this - I won't argue.
But then, what about African traditional tribal percussion music... is it music?
Well, techno is not very melodic, is it? And it is repetitive. But you can use it on a techno-party, where classical music would be out of place, even though it's artistically superior. |
Yeah, but what are classical music doing in a techno party? I’m not saying that some techno styles are more music than hiphop iether. And I can admit that classical music is a great big genre of music, probably the greatest, but me personally can't enjoy it so much somehow - probably because I want more "coherency" in the songs I hear.
|
It's been a while now and I really don't remember what I wanted to prove. But let's agree on this: non-melodic music can exist together with melodic. You may think it's not-full-standard-music then, but don't say it aloud on a hiphop party and it'll be okay. |

In my previous post I said we've prolly passed the apogeum... Might be, I was terribly wrong...
The size of your reply in two parts overwhelms me. I think I'll take a free week to write my answers.
Stay tuned, I will reply asap. |
LOL
Sorry for this "drawn-out" discussion, but well we have all the time in the world.

Very true. Except I wouldn't stick just in these forms. Think about narrow-minded trancers or clubbers......every basket has it's rotten eggs and when (or while) it appears to mainstream, things go a bit out of hands. Need to clarify ourselves there is difference on a way how musicians and listeners approach towards music. For listeners it can be like you said abouve, a wasy to express social behaviour i.e belong to a group. Typical acting in teenage years And entertainemnt industry cleverly uses this by making acts to masses. |
VERY TRUE
