Edzes, you're talking like if there were no OHCs any more... |
Yes, seems like I did. Thnx for pointing that out, Cooth
Of course there are still occationally hosted OHC's, but what I mean is that it used to be more of them, and it used to be greater interest for it in general. At least that's my impression. |

Ok , I better be nice and get back on topic here :
I started tracking on a commodore 64 in 1989 , later on AMIGA , and later on PC (in the late 90's I think) using soft's like digistudio and even fasttracker 1 , then ft2 , madtracker and now I combine Madtracker 2 and REnoise , but getting the strong quality when I master .

edzez : go for it!
ddspeed: Yep, that was me, I have always resonating like FT2 was my girlfriend - nice symbolism |
But unfortunately (?) you won't make music using your girlfriend and you won't go to bed with FT2 (unless you burn it on a CD ).

blaah, have to change this.. earlier was a stupid list. I started over 10 years ago with trackers, i think it was year 1990. After doing some songs with tracker I got bored with all the limitations and usage, so I moved into sequencers.. first I used Cubase (can't remember version, it was on Atari) and later on I think it was year '94 I started to use Cakewalk with PC. I made lot of different kinds of projects, and I think the biggest breakthrough was in year 96-97 when I did a remix to denmark Virgin Records. After that I have done several products in Helsinki during years 97-98 and found Logic (oh.. that was a day of joy ).. after that I have been producing lot of own projects and also some other remixes to denmark. At the moment there is few productions going on and maybe at least one EP will be released soon..

"Since when do you compose" is a biased question. It should be "how much time of relevant experience do you have".
You'll see. I was forced to learn guitar by my dad in 1983 and it lasted for about 1.5 years. After that I used to hate playing music.
In 1994 I had a MOD tracker and a few samples, no sound card, so I made it for speaker and MODs I made were horrible in terms of dissonance.
Then I stopped as I got tired and I was going to nowhere.
In 2003 I downloaded Modplug tracker and some samples at www,modarchive.com and restarted again.
So in terms of "when", I started with music in 1983 and I compose since 1994, but my relevant experience is just a few months.
The ideal measure would be "relevant hours of experience" but that's too much. A worker who uses 5 hours a week can't be compared to a teen who can make 25 hours a week.
Dond't forget to visit my CTG page and drop me some comments. The more comments or reviews, the more I can learn.

I think I first wrote something around 1994 but it wasn't really a "song". I continued to track right up to around 2000, stopped for a year, and for some reason can't get back into it. Strangely even though I started with IT 2.09 I went to Scream Tracker and then back to IT. Tried ModPlug for a while but couldn't seem to grasp the interface.
Now I'm basically fluent in sound editors and do more editing than anything else.

Lol ok my story sounds a lil retarded. I was visiting Darude.com around around... maybe march of 2002. I read in his profile that "darude used to compose german-style happy hardcore on tracker programs." I'm like hmm... ok? Whats a tracker program. I went online on google, and searched it up. got a bunch of random crap until i found "homemusic.cc" I went there, downloaded mpt off mpt's website, and started to listen at what this lil program can do. Of course, i listened to "aryx," and i thought WOW!!! i didn't start really tracking until about august or september. I gotta credit Dj Bourg a lot with my starting process. Hez been a great friend/"teacher." After my first song "tigerlili," then "voyage of eternity," i thought of making some piano stuff. Made echoes, after a long wait, of about 3 months. I dunno, it was, and still is very hard for me to arrange stuff. I have high standards for myself, and i don't like to continue something that sounds newb untill i've made better sounds/etc. Yep, i then discovered vsti's and have moved onto fruityloops, i hope to release something in the near future cuz i am finally making improvement on synthesis. This whole past summer of 2003 i spent learning various things and listening to music lets see what 2004 brings me!

I started composing in about 1984, on piano. Messed around with that for about 10 years while taking an occasional piano lesson, never wrote anything down because transcribing things from piano to paper by hand is such a pain.
Right about then (1994) I bought a guitar and started composing on that because it's a lot easier to keep ideas around with that (also, I was enjoying playing it quite a bit more at that point, because piano was getting old.) I started reading up on theory with some books I checked out at the library.
Got into a band in 1997 and played with them as the singer, guitarist, songwriter for about 3 years. (Actually that stupid band O.A.R. played a few shows with us at local bars... I hated them then, and I hate them now even more since they've started getting radio play. They're pretty much the epitome of cheesey songwriting, and they know it, and they like it that way because they just want to be big.) The band I was in dissolved in early 2000, and I discovered impulse tracker in late February.
So, I've composed for about 20 years, but only about 4 have been spent with computers. |
