I see a lot of discussion in the thread "Any ideas to bring CTG back" which is great, but that's also the problem - I only see discussion and no action. As a man of action, I believe if the admins are to agree on an idea that one creates, they should attempt to make it happen.

I will brainstorm some ideas of my own but I hope to get some support. These ideas do not require anything more than what CTG already has to offer. It simply requires creativity which most of us, as musicians, are capable of utilizing.

The first idea that comes to mind is that we do have a newsletter feature. I was recently scrolling down and vaguely remembered subscribing years ago but I can't say that I've received anything. I'd imagine that we have quite a lengthy subsciber list: old CTG-ers, new ones, guests, spambots :P etc. If we make a new newsletter, it will attract those who have maybe forgotten about CTG, lost interest, whatever the reason may be. That may be a great idea, but what could we write about? Well, it's simple. We just need to get this place back up on its feet.

Using the items built into CTG, we could put together a pretty attractive newsletter which will bring people in. For example, we need to get the CTG mixes going again, top of "year goes here" lists, etc. Nandoo, Randor, Frank No more and I have been very good about reviewing here within the past few weeks (credits to the others who have been reviewing as well!).

Another option many will consider is just simply spreading the word around. This is easy to do, but not very effective, believe it or not. I've done this myself. There are a lot of people who are not open to new ideas. For example, people who mainly listen to Rock and Rap will not be willing to listen to Trance and instead fire off saying a paltry reply like "meh, it's gay" or something complementary.

These are just a few of the many ideas which can be thought up of that would dig CTG Music out of the hole and I'm definitely willing to help if anybody else is.

Cool bro, but let's not start one thing before we make changes over the webiste. I suggest you all to post your ideas here and we all can make a "rescue plan" for CTG.

A part of you knows that TiS is a dead place, we should take care on CTG before the same happens here.

I'm going to sticky this thread for the time being, (not that it'll disappear from view any time soon :D )

Newsletters would be a good way to generate interest. I feel it would have to be written by someone (or multiple) with their fingers on the pulse of what is going on around scene music/scene general.

As per AmBeam though, we really need to learn how to walk again before we think about running and getting caught out with a million ideas and no way to implement.

First and foremost for CTG is that we need to iron out issues with the website. Lack of regular maintenance has taken it's toll on the site. I'm not a coder unfortunately so I wouldn't even know where to begin, but I know we have coders amongt admin staff. For starters I see we currently have '71 onliners' I bet 70 of those are bots and the 1 proper user is myself at this very moment. While we'll not be able to really stop the bots from lingering, we can at least work on the balance of active users online methinks. Website design has been a regular participant on saving CTG's agenda, but for now I think this has to be secondary to fixing what we already have.

I think after a couple of weeks or so of this thread being active, I'll put together a poll based on the ideas generated to gain a clear user opinion on what most would be a factor in repeat visits and actively participating in our community.

One thing I'm going to be partaking on is a song amnesty. I'm going to start checking links and removing dead songs. No one likes to visit a website and have dead links. I've been working on removing dead banners already and there shouldn't be any broken ones at the moment, but of course I will continue to monitor.

The first thing we really need to solve is the damn registration thingy. We can make CTG the best place there is, but if people cannot register, we'll only attract oldies back, and no new people can come.

The biggest problem currently is that registration only relies on reCAPTCHA, and it has been beaten by xrumer software.

Honestly, the best bet would be to build the CTG system ontop of a working registration system, for example a forum or CMS that works.

The problem however is, that once you do a step like this, history will be gone. The alternative is to fix the code in such way that registration will be good again. Unfortunately, the code is a big mess with lots of dependencies to other files which basically makes it nearly impossible to get that sorted.

I once tried, but to fully test it, you need to have the site working offline. I never was able to get that part sorted out.

I can imagine the loss of history wouldn't be welcome in some camps. However, just like with real life, sometimes you have to let go off the past to move forwards. Perhaps archiving the current system, so that it's shut down for new content, but accessible for the nostalgia and of course access to to some of the decent content thats already available.

I would like to participate as a coder here, might help a bit..

Instead of captcha test, there is a tool that might solve the problem here - "drag and drop icon to the right place". I can do this myself, so it could be a bit safer.

I would agree with what LPChip is saying. I hate to lose history. This place has been around for nearly 10 years and you just want to throw it all away? Would it be possible to archive it if we were to do this?

I am all for the archiving of the older content. It would be insanity to just throw away the history here. It should be accessible but as was suggested, it should be shut down from new content.

The very first thing we should do is to fix the registration. After that we should start somekind of ad campaign (newsletters etc).

Currently I don't see CTG heading for a slow death. I see CTG reviving. And I think it's because of user activity. And that should be encouraged as well

I may be missing something, but I see no reason existing data couldn't be adapted to any new framework or CMS.

Cooth, I dont understand a shit of coding PHP, but realize that Ace hardcoded nearly everything. So even small facelift is a hard day task. Iäm not sure about MySQL data, but sorting it properly by ne routines need probably a LOT of work. Who's gonna do that?

Odd and bizarre text here
