This question may have been asked before, if it has I am sorry for repeating this.
I am currently going through all my music, sorting it out, to make it alot more easier to find when out on a gig. So I started with getting rid of all the music that wasn't 320kbps, from bad cd rips and the likes. Until I started to notice the music I downloaded from itunes was only around 260kbps. Would this quality be ok to use in a club, or will it become distorted through the speakers.
Thanks for the help!!!!!! |

It is very unlikely that you would hear distortion due to a low bitrate in your files. Usually, the distorted sound in clubs is due to dumb djs who play the music to loud. The main problem with lower quality mp3's is that you lose the high frequencies, which might make the sound a little more dull. I doubt whether you average drunk club lover will notice though.

I wouldn't worry. you'll start noticing from a bitrate of 192kbps and lower. And indeed, its mostly noticable in the high end, and everyone around you probably don't have such good speakers at home that they'll miss the high end, and it could just be that it sounds like you've eq'ed to hear more bass, so don't worry. 260kbps is acceptable.
You can ask me hundreds "why don't you" questions, answer will be, because it works that way too. - xTr1m |

If you ask me all DJs should play FLACs or WAVs.
Put an end to the loudness war. Don't limit or compress your mixdown until mastering; leave the master channel alone.
