someone I know made this song remake for a contest that will take you to visit Korea if you win

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqIPIFgGQZs

I wonder if a better production would actually lower the chances to win since it is a contest opened to everybody and a super pro production would actually cause it to be somehow considered too good to take into account.

What do you think?

So you reckon that if you make a song with awesome melodies, lots of emotion, great soundquality and a beautiful soundscape, that this will harm your chances of winning? Where is the logic behind that? Is the jury more interested in songs that are complete crap?

edit: it would be nice if you could post the a link to the original contest page, if we can read it ofcourse...
In the open (2837 hits) My ambient EP.

Sounds like a queer idea to do that kind of calculation. I'd say enter with your best work or skip the contest if you think it's not appropriate for your level.

You should always make the best quality you can.

The "youth" of today is also different then when I was young. We had punk for example, where quality was not a measurement of how good a song was.

However, today, most people are feed with highly auto-tuned vocals and super-duper-uber-compressed music. This, believe it or not, makes many listeners of today quality freaks. :cop:

Something that is NOT cmpressed almost OUT of the speakers, or a vocal that is not auto-tuned, with the warmth and errors that naturally gives, might/can sound awkward to the music listeners of today. :words:

Sad but (at least to some point), true.
