I'm confused. I've been recently looking at some Dubstep to open my tastes a little more. After looking around on YouTube for fun, I came across this.

I hear this is dubstep. I like it.

Then the typical Skrillex sound that all of the kids in school rave about (at least in the US):

Am I the only one who doesn't know wtf to consider Dubstep?

I gotta say. Dubstep, like any other 'genre' of music is damn good.. if its good.

It's all personal taste of course, but I think more relevant to your conflict .. what is a genre anyway?
I think a genre is merely how we classify as close as possible in retrospect and relative to all other things around them.
In other words.. there is one MAIN GENRE... and that is : MUSIC.. then any other genre is a subgenre of MUSIC ..

Dubstep I'd say, was the evolution from the drum n bass stuff sort of like this

all music is constantly evolving.

I love mt eden and I love skrillex they are two different directions that dubstep is taking. (skrillex being more of a dirty electro influence)
dubstep is such a new branch of music that I think we will see alot of variation in it.

variation of course until it becomes a new genre in its own.

just a quick thought.. but interesting topic to discuss.

one thing tho (my opinion):

I HATE WOBBLE

Thanks for clearing that up NapuZ. I hate that dirty dubstep shit. It sounds utterly horrible and gives me a headache within seconds of listening to it! Music is subjective, so I'm not complaining or raging. Just expressing my personal thoughts. ;)

You now live in the US (correct?), and I'm guessing you notice how the younger generation are listening to the dirty Dubstep and consider all else "gay". Maybe your story is different.

"...over 100% of homosexual gays listen... [to skrillex]"

^^ HAHA! good article, good article indeed.

@cyanhost109 - spot on - in every music genre there are the tracks that are acceptable for the majority to ADMIT THEY LIKE.. or whats acceptable to enjoy.
anything more profound - say, something that requires an emotional involvement is no doubt more of a 'sissy' indulgence....

but hey, that's an indulgence that makes us music lovers.. that makes us musicians.. and why we gather on music forums such as CTG.. the underground .. and in the end - its the people who really listen and enjoy music that create it.. and in turn drive the music industry.

i do love skrillex tho.
as much as I love a good Classical Choir.

all depends on my mood

The best way to describe dubstep is as follows:

Dubstep is a mixutre of RnB and DnB. Very typical for DubStep is the wobble bass, where the wobble often changes depending on the frequency. Also very typical for dubstep is the breakdown. You have an intro that builds to a climax and then the breakdown occurs and the actual track plays.

If I'd make dubstep, it'd be like this: LPChip - Franky goes to hollywood, c64 dubstep remix
You can ask me hundreds "why don't you" questions, answer will be, because it works that way too. - xTr1m

I have to point out it is a parody. That site is made to make ppl think that not everything that is posted on the web is true. You can see what kind of ppl it is aimed at. ;)

well the difference between dirty dubstep and "clean' dubstep is, i guess, dirty dubstep makes you think of death, and clean dubstep does not lol
