i would say that thisis more a music topic rather than a help topic. Most help topics are concerning messed up passwords, etc. technical stuff with the site!

Okay...
I thought I was "supposed" to take stuff like kicks, bass, etc... all different sounds and put them into (in my case) cool edit in seperate tracks so I can master each sound directly.
I understood wrong?
This was supposed to be my first attempt at mastering. I got a simple hardcore track and thought it would be fun, educative and maybe even get me a bit better soundquality.
Any further help would be appreciated. |

this is called mixing, and it's usually done in the program itself..
meaning compressing each sound, reverbing, delaying, eq'ing.. i eq every sound in my songs and compress most of them..
mastering is something you do to the entire song when you have completed it... it's not even nessasery since most people, even people who have experienced more than 5 years in music can't make it right... and good mixing and no compressing is better than bad mixing and a compress trying to save the song

Nope mastering is "tuning" your track for the final result .....
For example , you have a basic song composed in reason , fruity or with hardware .... so what you do to create the final result to fit on a release is called MASTERING . |

heh that's exactly what i said...
master is a word that means the whole track when it's done...
and mastering is a verb... what you do to the master.. just like i said and you
and it's pretty much the same do you take the tracks off from the sequencer or not...
i understand you if you use madtracker or what ever it might not have all the effects you need so it must be easier to effect them seperatly... but in flstudio and reason you do the mixing in the program.. they even have mixers in it.

Yes that is true , but if you do it that way you will never get rid of the "fruity sound" or "reason sound" .... why ? Because you render 1 file trough the (for example) "fruity wav render system" ... and you get 1 "fruity" wav ... which contain the "fruity"sound .
To gather a much clearer "not fruity" and more pro sound , it is a must to edit every track outside fruity (or reason or whatever you use) , so every track will sound different then the "fruity wav render sound" ... and it will all play together in a clean atmosphere the software you use to open those wavs in ....
Fruity and Reason tracks (and buzz and and and) are very recognizable , but they are less recognizable when thjey are mastered in the way I disribed .
Think about that haha ...
I know , now you come with " no no , fruity doesn't have ... " and " fruity is good enough to mix it " ..... well save it .... it goes for every software to compose in , not only fruity
SO let's give the guy some usefull help now instead of letting a nice topic go off topic again !
