Explanation why the option for disabling reviews will not be implemented in current system:
1. The very important part of reviewing system is to keep it simple and easy to use, by having songs where people could not write reviews or ratings it could bring up a confusion.
|
This point I acknowledge fully and I share this opinion (unfortunately )
2. The goal of the site is also to keep as many songs as possible reviewed, thats why there are pages like "non reviewed songs" and "promo songs". By adding option for disabling reviews this would losts its original intention unless if there would be some extra system which would not include disables songs, which would affect on site performace which allready isnt optimal.
|
I'm not sure if it isn't a bit of a misunderstanding, but I won't discuss it since there is no point in that I believe.
point 3 is unquestionable...
The solution which will replace this system to some point:
1. If an artist does not want his song to be reviewed he must state so in song description.
|
Lol, I did so once. Didn't work, that one got even more reviews than some other songies of mine...
2. If such song will recive a review anyway artist must report it and we will remove it. |
Aw, that wouldn't be very nice. I will not do that. But yeah, that's a potential, theoretical workaround.
When I have nothing smart to say, I make up silly signatures. |

oh sweet jesus...
if an artist doesn't want his/her song reviewed, then he should keep his songs in his harddrive.
if you publish your songs, then every person has a right to state his/her opinnion, expecially in a site like this.
quit complaining.

If you read the full discussion you notice that I have no problem with people stating their opinions. As DDSpeed (I believe) made the suggestion on the first page, it would be nice to have an option to have songs reviewed without a rating attached to them. (A much better solution than the one I had originally thought of.)
So Ace, since I stated in my song description that I would prefer to not have it reviewed would it be possible to have the review deleted if I put the song back up as part of the temporary workaround? |

well i personally would like my songs to appear with different colour in lists and charts... maybe red. but i guess that would be too much asked from ace, so maybe i just try to be happy what this site has now, or if that is impossible i have to leave this site.

Adding another otion IMO always is a good thing. If your songs were red it would be grat for you. If somebody wants to have his song out of the whole system, charts, such stuff it's completely another history, so your reply was nonesense.

actually i didn't find a single one good reason why one should have his song out of the whole system..
like in south park season 7 episode 1.. "if ya don't like it... you can gheeeet out"

Me too. But someone can find some reasons and our task is to tolerate his opinion.

Indeed since now basicly the review is allready removed. But i hope that you mean that review is not visible for others since if a review is deleted the artist who recived it can still see it (unless if he logs out ), but the review does not count for charts or any statistic. |

Thanks Ace... I readded the song, logged out and checked, and the review is still there. Here's the URL in case you have the time to work it out for me. http://www.ctgmusic.com/ctg/song.php?id=2048
As far as a good reason to not want to be part of the charts and such... just leave it as personal preference, I guess.
Just some insight into my reasoning.
(Caution: long, unimportant talking coming up. Skip the rest of this post if you'd like to stay on the topic of the thread.)
The charts here might benefit my downloads in a small way I suppose. But given that the song in question received around 400 downloads from other places in the two weeks it was on this site (receiving about 20 downloads) it doesn't seem like I would be reaching all that much greater an audience by taking part in the charts here. I just like releasing here because I enjoy the atmosphere of this site a lot, the people are generally cool and pleasant to talk with... but I have no intention of trying to be on the charts here.
There was a time when I was really concerned with charts and popularity... and I think I eventually reached a point where I just got so sick of it that I stopped caring. I would have popular songs that got rated poorly by people who said things like: "This isn't as good as people think it is... I'll bring this to a more appropriate score." It breaks my heart to see people taking music, which I hope to be an inspiring artform, with such childishness. And rather than forcing myself to question the integrity of the people I choose to interact with musically I'd rather just presume them all to be passionate, intelligent, wonderful people with a shared love for music.
The bigger part though is just that I have a strange view of my music from what other people tell me. Within the past year I've turned down a full-time job as a studio musician doing soundtrack work for video games and movies. I would prefer to make much less money doing the work I do now and making the music that I want to make, when I want to make it. As opposed to someone saying: "I need a song that will be tense, and kind of scary" when I feel like writing something soft and pretty.
I have allowed people the use of my music before in return for money in two ways: the first way was by being asked to create a set of songs for a soundtrack given a script, timings, etc. the second was by being asked to use an already existing song. I much preferred the second way. The first way felt like I was just working from formulas in order to create the sound that was asked for: "He wants jarring stuff.... hmmm.... how about industrial drums in 7/8 with some dissonant piano and strings." I just kind of did the songs without passion or inspiration because they fit what was asked for... and I hated it.
I guess that my fear is that all the charts and stuff will point out specific things about my music that "work" for ctg and that I'll formulize it and ruin music for me. So rather than succumb to that, I'll sit off on the side... and that doesn't mean that I don't want to hear about what my music does for you, it just means that you can't expect me to change because of it. And since I want to be a part of this community, it would be silly for me simply to link my songs and then never log in again until I had another song to link.
The best fan email I received in the last year, and the only one that sticks out really, is the one that was about a song that I released 4 years ago, received 80 downloads total (b-side on TiS) and that this particular guy liked so much that he tracked me down. That was much more satisfying than the others that dealt with songs with thousands of downloads due to charting, etc. So I figure, I'll give my songs an equal shot right off the bat from now on, whenever possible.
Does that help to explain? |

well that was too long and boring for me to read completely but....
Why must you whine so damn much? You really ask Ace to create a special workaround for you? Why do you work so hard to control a system you think is so unimportant?
