There is a debate going on about if techno is music or not. It started as a thread about techno music in games.
I bet you'll find it interesting and I bet your posts could be useful there. It's a community of gamers.

Of Course Techno is music!!!
Thousands and Thousands of people goto clubsraves worldwide to listen and dance to it, and it was one of the first genres of dance back in the late 80's early 90's and is still massive today.. Just because there is nothing that sounds like techno (And i do mean the style techno - not just a word that encaptulates the whole genre of dance music like the US do)
Check out these producersDjs :
Chris Liebing, Dave Clarke, Adam beyer, DJ Rush, Carl Cox.... They are very succesfull in what techno is. |

I think tehno is as much music as anyother genre... maybe even more since the whole begining of music looked most like some tribal tehno, where people only used drums to make rythms. |

I have to register there in order to reply.
But however I think there are intelligent and unintelligent techno styles, more or less. It is a pretty big subject. But it is music for sure, as everything else that has rhythm.

Notice how the only people who don't think techno is music don't like it? It's a way of justifying their opinion. People trying to justify the opposite will find it difficult, because of the subjectivity of music.
Depending on how you look at music, techno can be both. on that Atari forums, Gentry, the main person arguing against techno, said

Techno is not music. Actual music is the arrangement of sounds so as to produce a unified harmony, balance, melody, rhythm and timbre, all in stylistic composition. |
According to him, techno doesn't have these things. Sure, crap songs don't, but good songs do.
Don't get into arguments about this type of thing; their music is just as bad as ours, and as good as it too.
Onwards and upwards. |

Whoever said techno isn`t music, is sure as hell musically ignorant.
It`s music. Hell, the sound of the ocean waves is music, breaking glass is music. Whatever makes noise is music. That`s my opinion.
And about that quote, the guy says it has to be harmonic? Thats balony, how would you explain psychedelic music then? Or is it too not considered music?
