I mean, who could write their own reviews, but i don't mean it like:
"MY drums are just great"
"My synths are so ...."
you know?
analyse your song for us, tell us what is there to be expected from it, and how would you get into it and spread it bit by bit...
of course i'm not suggesting this as an addon to the site... but would be a nice change to see the composer analysing his(her) track...
what do you think?
In music one must think with the heart and feel with the brain.

It's damn easy i might dare to say. Easy to DO. Maybe harder to do it really WELL.
My songs suck. Why? because I don't know a shit about songwriting, and all I do is from what I think that possibly might sound nice for my very self. When I create a song, I do it for myself and I can surely say, what I have accomplished and what not. If there is anyone really interested, I might do that, but I doubt there is such a person, really ahhahhahhhhahh
If I am to analyse my own stuff, I can do that, but just tell me which song of mine I am to comment and possibly rate...
I do not take any responsibility for what is written above. |

The only thing I like in my song is the fact that it is made with a program that nobody uses
And I'm satisfied about the atmosphere in it......
Too bad I know shit about songwriting, I don't even know what a do, sol or mi note is on a piano. Long live the midi file |

I think it is not hard to review your own music, since you can simply comment it as any other song only thing which i find a bit problematic is the rating.. i guess most of artists really like what they are making ...it is like their favorite music so the rating in most cases would not be most accurate |

Hmm, I guess I could do it with my older songs. Some month after I finish a track I could tell what I screwed up or not I think. Certainly not directly after it's finished, even though I know a song is not perfect I'm usually satisfied with it when I finish it.

I can't agree... As the maker, I know what I did wrong, I realise that and I can see in what degree I have accomplished my own needs to express. Especially, after a few days since the very creation
Of course, the case of unexperienced musicians thinking the best of themselves and giving themselves highest ratings might be problematic, but that only depends on how you look at it - if it's not a competition, what is the problem if someone rates themself 10 while you rate your track 5?

There is no problem if someone rates themself with 10 and someone with 5. I guess this is quite personal and differs alot from people to people... like i would never relese a song which would i think it is worth of 5 I wouldnt even go and finish such song. So basicly i would never rate my finished songs with less then 8 (others will) since all of them somehow sound exactly as i like the most. But offcourse this goes only for "just" released songs. When you listen to your old music the rating goes down |

I think reviewing your own songs is a great thing to do before uploading. I've thought about it, but it would still feel pretty wierd I guess.
There are at least two ways (maybe the only ways) of noticing faults in your songs, even though you are totally satisfied with them, and even after analyzing them VERY carefully...
1. Even though others may point out things on your song you could agree with them "ahh, I didn't really think of that"... Has happen a lot of times with me. Sometimes you could be blinded and someone else has to open your eyes... Like sleeping, you can't wake yourself.
2. As the time progress you progress as a musician as well, because you get more mature and more experienced... In that way your old songs may sound very "low" compared to your new ones, but remember that you were probably satisfied with that old song back then, as well. In the same way you will look back at your own songs (in 2010 for instance) that was made today in 2004. ok, I'm gonna stop being so deep now
However I dont like artists that bragging about their own tunes, like "This is sooo great! You must download it!" (in the comments for instance), not even if the songs actually ARE good, it just looks so arrogant somehow - most times at least. Having selfconfidence is of course important, but without being snooty of course. And comments like "I feel satisfied with this tune, and I hope you'll enjoy it" is very innocent.
Actually I dont upload songs if I dont feel satisfied with them, why should I want to show someone something that I really dont want to show? Making music to satisfy "self-acknowledgement", instead of satisfying a creative mind is a wierd line of reasoning imo.
Ok, just some thoughts that hit me while reading your posts in this thread... Interesting topic indeed. |
