honest answer... I want to get reviews so I do it as well. Sometimes I really enjoy reviewing ( when the song is really good or really bad ), but lately Im in a slump, think I burnt myself out on it.
I think its foolish to always think I could have something to say that would help the artist, but Im learning... and I know that many of the reviews I have gotten have taught me very much. Hopefully every now and then I say something that will help someone else too.

I write reviews to get something back. Simple as that, and I always said I did BTW.
Someone should make fun out of you. Why don't you do it yourself? |

I review because I like it I think that may be useful. I don't expect anything back, actually when I review it's my payback to the community because I always get at least one for each new song.

I review over at the sounding board because I like to think that it's a great way of leaving a musical legacy.
Personally, I can write and write and write but I'm not sure that it's going to better as many lives as possible. If I pass along some grain of musical wisdom to another person who takes their craft seriously, well... then I've increased my chances of helping the musical world. |

I miss an alternative like "I review because it's fun". I would never review if I didn't enjoyed it. But sure, I get more motivated to do it on a song I really like, or when I feel like I have something useful to say about a song - in order to help the artist to improve.
Interesting topic however. I actually get the feeling from most artists that they doesn't really care about other songs, only their own. So "if I review his songs, he will review mine"... I wouldn't wanna get a review from someone that feel obligated to review my songs. If that is the attitude around here, then I indirect forces the artists, that I've reviewed, to review my songs - unintentionally.
Still I think that attitude is not only negative, it feels pretty fair somehow. So yes, I think maybe a bit that is the reason why I review but no way the main reason. |

But what about it makes it fun? Why is it fun to tell someone what you think about their music? |

It's nice to review other artists music, and i find this can be very relaxing as you try to understand the meaning behind the tune .
i dont review to get a review yes it's nice when you do get a review be this good or bad, other peoples point of view does count and it's always nice to get and to give feedback,

Maybe "fun" is a wierd word to choose. Like Bt_Me said, it's relaxing and interesting to try to understand other songs, I think it is anyway. In another way I just find it satisfying to just state an opinion about something. And I like to write, did I mention that? Well now you know. But just review in order to be accepted around here is wrong motivation imo, if I wouldn't enjoy reviewing I simply wouldn't do it and I would probably not be here in the first place... Why force myself to do things I actually don't like? |
