They say you got a simple bass line. So you make it complex.
Then they say there are no bass line changes, no variations. So you make variations.
Then somebody tells you the melody is too simple. You make it interesting.
One of the reviewers says that it is boring to listen to a tune with no tempo changes. You start adding the tempo passages where they are needed.
Then you are told your sample quality sucks and you buy good samples.
Then you release a tune with all of the above and they say the tune is too cheesy and complex, they need more experimental stuff with a more simple bass line and no tempo changes.
Interesting fact - ppl whom today we know as classics (Mozart, Bach, etc) were criticized all the way with other musicians whose names we don't know today.
Thus, don't care what ppl tell you. See if you can get something useful from the reviews, but overall it shouldn't matter. |

It's a bit funny for us... We know Bach today mainly as a composer, while in his times he was only known as a great performer . He made money mostly from performance, if he had only composed probably he wouldn't have made enough money for his 21 children.

I agree completely. Making an ideal song is impossible, you will never achieve all the things people want to hear in your song.

and you shouldn't, listening to other people never work, do what you want and if someone likes it then it's good. i think mainly point in reviews is that the reviewer explains why he didn't like it, since if he would just say "i didn't like this" the artist would probably want to know why.
also techical side is something you might wanna learn from, but those "tempo changes, variated basslines" etc are just opinnions, you don't have to do them if someone complains, they are just thoughts..

Don't make the music only to follow the ideas of the other, follow yourself!
If you want to do a song with only a shit-sample that do a melody of 3 notes in a song-lenght of 5 seconds, do it! It's your art, is the expression of yourself, not of the others.
Check my new track!

also more people need to learn how to review a track in the kind of atmospher/mood it was written in.
listening to some of louigis stuff you would say could be quite boring, during the middle of the day, drinking tea etc.
however - unless you're completely stupid (no names) you should not attempt to review a track if you know you are not in the MOOD for that style of music - even if its a style you like, because i can guarantee you'll listen to it at the RIGHT time and think hey - i got it wrong, this is actually pretty good. |

i wouldn't say that at all - there are particular types of music i don't like - however as a musician i can appreciate the effort and talent put into writing those tracks.
i will review them, and i will also review them from the perspective they were written from. ie: i wont review a psy trance track from a eurphoric trance point of view, expecting some huge cheesy lead - i know its place is not in this style of music.
if you can't/don't know how to appreciate all styles of music, then you shouldnt be reviewing as your reviews will reflect your strict musical taste -period- |

i understand what u mean by you'd be expecting a cheesy psy lead, because to a melodic trance mind, you'd think that all psy leads are cheesy. but u see, you wouldn't really know if that lead was cheesy or not for psytrance now would you? thats were you STOP. Sure we can all appreciate all genres of music, but to fully understand them is another story. |
