As far as I know AMD has better performance in musical usage, it's also cheaper. The problem is that it is very hot and requires good cooler. In studios which don't use Mac you will usually find Intel because it's just more quiet.

Ghz doesn't matter as much as I think people believe. downstairs, there is a PC which is a XP2200+, and I have a XP2400+. When I was in Canada I had a 1.1ghz Thunderbird. The XP2200+ runs like a piece of shit, while both my 1.1ghz and 2400+ fly like rockets. Also, my 1.1 in canada, ran some pretty intense software, just as well as my friends 2.4ghz P4. It comes down to the quality & speed of components they are also running on. My 2400+ clocks at 2ghz, but is it really running at this speed? Nope! its running at the speed of my motherboard!, which is significantly slower. Also, with Ghz, how can the higher GHz really mean faster? If this was true, the Intel Celeron running at 2.7ghz, would be faster than a P4 running at 2.66ghz.
You see, its not what speed a processor can run at, its the amount a processor can process during 1 clock cycle which matters. Some one posted here that the P4 is better for photoshop and other apps like that, whereas the Athlon's are better for games. I do agree with that - however, with the speeds of these darn processors today, they are far more than capable of running the software on the market, whether it be an Intel or AMD. So, with all this in mind, my advice would be to get the most power for the amount of money you are prepared to spend - which will always lead you to AMD. BTW, if you can, get an Athlon64...that pisses on all Intel chips, at just about anything

yes but if you use software mainly aimed to PC then using Mac doesn't help at all, only complicates stuff.

All pro class apps are available to OS-X Only Acid Pro isn't afaik.....
On PC I'd go for Intel if my aim is record something. Liquid pipeline coolers aren't always enough to hotheaded AMD chips. Also remember memory, pick up top notch motherboard and 2 gb fast ram, you don't even miss fastest cpu's.....

now that you mention, this amd is pretty damn loud... but i always thought it was because of the fans and not processor?
it's true that most programs are available for mac, and logic and mac is an ultimate combination, but if you are a cubase user or cubase-reason, i would suggest using pc

because logic is only distributed on the mac these days... on the pc it goes only as far as 5.5.1... and honestly logic really is a great professional piece of software.
