Yeah, some people say I am spamming, but
I know people start songs in different ways, but I don't think anyone asked, how do you finish a song.
Mastering and outputting are fairly obvious, but I am talking about the last producing stage. Do you add in transitions, effects, layer the melodies, etc?
I usually add in transitions, and atmosphere effects.

I usually do a song from start to finish... so often the last thing I do is add the final note(s).. but even more often I end up adding an intro as the final step.

I always finish with strocturing, i have all the sounds build so i basicly dont even thouch synths/rack anymore, i just layer those notes and work on some final details on filters, volume slides and effects.

I usually finish a song by checking how the song sounds like the day after, as I often find things that I can do differently when I've been away from it a short while. Then I might delete parts, or/and add parts. Doing a little extra mastering is the final touch, as I dont care much for the mastering parts while creating a song, besides the obvious stuff.

When I near the end of work on a song, I usually want to move on to next songs. So I don't do many specal things. Either I know what the song should be like at the very beginning, or I let it develop 'spontanously', trying to do most things on the go. So like obScene, I usually make my songs from the beginning to the end, "chronologically" so to say. Outro is most often the last thing I do in a song. But like Brandon, I sometimes leave the intro to the end. Then I get the worse ones though, in my own opinion.
PS. people often comlain about my endings - the explanation is simple - I don't feel like spending too much time ending something that practically belongs to the past already - in my mind that is.

First I try to set up the structure so when that is finished I have a simple drum line that keeps playing the same and pretty rough transitions. So I guess the last thing I do is to change little things here and there to make the track more interesting and to give it a nice flow so that everything's in its place. I add drum breaks, some effects, etc. which I would consider my last step

Perseverence.
You keep going until you're satisfied - and even then it's good to leave it a bit before you release it. If you're not happy about it, leave it a while and come back. If you think you've sold yourself short, keep going. It's not easy, hence perseverence.

I agree with Gopher. When I leave my pieces in the harddrive for long months (something I always do now) I usually remake parts of them, improving the arrangement, changing samples, etc. I've come to the extreme of remaking whole pieces of music, something I usually hated. I used to be more like Cooth regarding those things. Then I stopped relasing everything I made. The advantage is that, some days, I open a piece and start tweaking around.

I never really finished a track. After the release I find soo many things that still can be improved. I think everyone knows this feeling, or?
It´s going to be a very big hit!
