void your two last posts are completely offtopic, read my first post and the title TRANCE
|
Infected Mushroom (Goa) is trance... Trance isn't only that epic, angelic cheese, you guys only think of as trance. Just because it's not on TranceAddict doesn't mean it's not trance. 4 Strings and Oceanlab are epic (pop trance) or eurotrance. Hell, even Ian van Dahl is trance, believe or not. Don't tell me Ian van Dahl (eurotrance) is eurodance or something else because they're not. Eurodance sounds way different, and is older than epic trance. Gabriel and Dresden is U.S. Trance, a more laidback, heavily compressed form of trance.
Just because a trance song doesn't have stupid arpeggiators and supersaws for pads, doesn't mean it's not trance. If it's music that gives you goosebumps and puts you in a trance on a dance beat, it's trance. If it's just a dance beat that makes you wanna dance and it's chill and groovey, it's house. If it's hard, groovey, and in your face on a dance beat, it's techno.
For you epic trance lovers... PVD and Ian van Dahl are both epic trance!
Listen to Castles In The Sky without vocals... it's the same crap you would hear on a Paul van Dyk set, an Armin or Ferry set, ect. Just because vocals are slapped on it, doesn't change its genre.
As for Slipknot, I dono what that's doing on this forum. |

eh jesus, you obviously don't know what you are talking about, so maybe shutting up would be a nice alternative? when you haven't heard the tunes mentioned i suggest don't assume anything. those infected mushroom songs are far from trance. as a IM lover i ofcourse know that they do psytrance (not goa!) but they do a lot of other psychedelic material too, like break, dnb, ambient etc...
check out those songs, they are from their latest album and are downtempo.

are you generalizing A LOT? some people here enjoy ian van dahl kinda trance only, some people enjoy ferry corsten kinda trance, and some people think even way out west is too commercial for them.

well it used to be like that, back in the days when trance was born. something to make you trance. but nowadays techno is more hypnotic and possible making you into trance than trance, so times have changed things have developed. i don't really see the point of this post, you obviously try to know more than you know really, and you think that other people here don't know anything about trance.

I do know what I'm talking about... Just because "progressive" trance sceners decided to make a formulaic buildup, breakdown formula with arpeggios, doesn't mean that, that is trance and everything else is either house or techno.
Trance is supposed to put you in a trance. It's not supposed to be like "oh yay, here comes the breakdown after 96 bars of music... let me wait about 2 minutes before the tune builds tension again and rolls back into the dancey, main part."
So what if some people prefer Ferry's anthem trance over Ian van Dahl's epic/pop trance? They both evolved from progressive trance, which crafted the sound for what you guys call trance today. Thanks to epic, trance's image has been reshaped to cater to the tastes of pop top 40 enthusiasts. If trance is supposed to be emotional. Then why the hell do all the songs have to be angelic or uplifting? There's more emotions than that.
Just because there's a big epic, anthem, and Dutch trance scene in Europe doesn't give anyone the right to classify other trance scenes like Goa, not trance... or to call American trance not trance.
There's more to trance than Ferry, Rank1 and Armin. I also hate it when stupid sceners say there's no more room to be original in trance anymore. Now that really shows their ignorance of the genre.
Infected Mushroom, although they are more experimental with goa, they still are goa because it retains that Middle Eastern, hippy trance sound.
I love epic trance, dutch trance, anthem trance, or whatever trance that's popular now as much as any other guy here does. I produce it as well. I'm saying that if you're truly a trance fan, to explore the other areas of the genre. If you think the other trance is just brooding, boring, and progresses over long periods of time, well you're right, and you're probably not really a trance fan either. It just shows you're in it for its pop image, sad to say, most "tranceaddicts" are.
Same thing goes for hiphop and other commercial-dominant genres. I have a lot of "friends" that think they're so true to hiphop, and then I play them some of the other styles of hiphop that aren't as mainstream, and they say, "oh that's too underground sounding for me." Bullshit! As soon as hiphop goes off the mainstream, they'll go with whatever's on MTV, and then they'll swear to be true to that new genre. |

I rally don't see a point in these discussion.
It started about A98 that VPs songs aren't trance.
Well.... if slipknot puts somebody in trance, ...well... to bad
The infected mushroom songs mentioned there aren't trance
either.... they got some moves, but i would consider them
downtempo, if not even ambient. If the genre is called trance by simply putting you in
trance..... damn... i can listen to hiphop so hard it will put my mind into trance...
So i can see no point... why complaining about something that is obiously
right??? What does pop trance ala Ian van dahl got to do with this???
What does a mentioning of formulaic buildup got to do with this?
what do mainstream rappers got to do with this????
Nobody is classifying anything... theres been no word about classifying anything.
WHAT are you talking about Quartz.... for real.
I don't understand.... explain yourself, please without accusing anybody
being inferior "tranceaddict" or such alike.
???
"The 'soul' of the machines has always been a part of our music. Trance always belongs to repetition, and everybody is looking for trance in life... in sex, in the emotional, in pleasure, in anything... so, the machines produce an absolutely perfect trance."
