Bullshit. I'm an atheist, I have no religion, I dislike the whole concept of religion and I don't believe in the supernatural.
|
Okay, that's your way and it ought to be respected. But why do you disrespect other people's beliefs and philosophies by calling them bullshit?
Despite this, I have a string philosophy and feel great about my life.
|
Congrats then.
I don't this whole thing. They say people need it so they can seel it. Bullshit. You should be the center of your own life, not some kind of god.
|
Dammit, I like you but this pisses me off. Are you too arrogant to acknowledge that not everybody thinks and feels like you do? Or so arrogant that you have to tell others truths they'd most probably heard hundreds of times and yet didn't acquire the Perfect Philosophy? Who maybe find problems where you don't, ever thought of it this way? No? Because you are Right and you hold the only Truth? Doesn't it remind you of something?
Don't call other people's beliefs bullshit coz you usually hurt them this way and it serves no real goal. I can call your philosophy bullshit and I wouldn't be less right.
If I sound a bit impolite, that's because I've heard and read plenty of atheist anti-faith arguments, I gave this stuff a lot of thinking myself and I've been through all kinds of periods spiritual-wise. But arrogance is what drives me mad. People telling me all I lean on and believe in is crap and - between the lines - religious/spiritual people are just idiots to convert to atheistic normality - those people make me angry and I've had enough of them.
I won't go into more details why I don't want to hear more of that. Think what you want. I'm not able to control my life, or I'm afraid of death or I'm not able to think or act independently. Whatever you want to think the motives are. Maybe you will be right, maybe you will be bloody wrong, in case you care.
But it means a lot to me, so don't you say it's bullshit. |
Cooth, I'm very sorry if I offended you, especially because I like you too and I consider you as a friend. I didn't mean to offend you in any way, though I admit my words were a little harsh. I don't have anything against people having a religion. My girlfriend is a fervent catholic that goes to church every Sunday. If you look closer at my post, you'll see that I didn't call other people's beliefs "bullshit". I was referring to what oceanseeker said: that everyone needs a spirituality. That's what I say is bullshit. I'm not saying spirituality is bullshit, even though I dislike it. In spite of this, I would fight to death to ensure everyone's right to have their own religion and practice it. I wrote my post because I'm tired of religious people saying that if you don't have a religion, you don't have a goal in life, or you don't have morals, or you end up doing drugs, etc, etc. Oceanseeker said spiritualisy was a human need. And that's what I'm talking about when I say it's "bullshit".

It seems I have no choice but to become agnostic (believe in nothing), basically, not to think about spirituality too much, and instead, just look for quick pleasures. Or my other choices, live corruptly, believe for the sake of believing even though there is a probablity that a truer belief exists out there for you. |
I'd like to clarify that an agnostic is a person that says it's impossible to know whether there is a deity, and an atheist is certain that there is none. But not believing doesn't mean that you have to look for quick pleasures. Being an atheist means I only have myself to answer to, and of course the people around me. No one can offer me salvation except for the people I hurt.
Atheism isn't a religion. There are no atheist meetings, there are no atheist societies (none that are serious anyway), and what atheism propaganda? If you express your opinion, and someone else disputes it it can hardly be called propaganda. I don't get flyers from atheists, I don't have atheists knocking on my door asking me if I want to share their beliefs and I've yet to here of atheist temples and missionaries. The only thing I've ever saw or heard is someone saying "I think you're wrong". In Uruguay they might call it "bullshit", but it means just the same thing. It's pointless to state the obvious tho.
|
Exactly. All those nasty concepts about atheism and not having a spirituality is what I was talking about when I said "bullshit".

I get it, indeed I misunderstood. So I'm sorry too!
I'm a very peaceful and friendly guy in everyday life, but as a person whom Oceanseeker's views do apply to I've become rather sensitive on this field. I meet spiritually indifferent people in real life and in the net all the time and when I hear 'atheist' I usually recall all those people and defence-system switches on.
You didn't offend me and I know and knew you didn't intend to. It's just I treat those things seriously, I have respect for all religions (but people's true spiritual feelings, not institutions) and like openmindness; disregard and disrespect for other people's feelings is what makes me angry and believe me, many people do that. Even in the
scene. I'm happy you're beyond that.
And to defend Oceanseeker, I believe he was talking about it as a characteristic of humanity in general; if an alien comes to earth and sees the attributes of religions, he'll think of humans as spiritual creatures, even though he may realise not all people are the same.

Ok, then. I think my post was triggered by my defensive system switch to Hey, those devices are dangerous!
