Does anybody knows a good way to compress a mix? I mean, what should be the best way to do so? And don't tell me with "hardware compressors" |

The Waves LinMB is the best compressor I've heard to date. It has a real transparent sound to it and well...just sounds perfect. |
That's what I mean with the Waves LinMB. It's a multi-band compressor plugin which you'll find be going here and scrolling down til you see Linear Phase Multiband. PM or MSN me if you're interested...

Nope, probably both platforms I'd say. I think the cheapest bundle it comes in is the Masters, which is $900, but still... I believe they are among the top plugins you can get though.

So what do you use for your "compressing/limiting" step?

Yes, and which one then? Why don't you just use the LinMB followed by the L2? I really don't see what could be better...

Then you use it seperated , they should do their work both at the same time to get the right effect , and I use a compressor/limiter .... you know ..... a real one ?
And that real one can be done with software aswell ...
Oh , and using both plugins at th same time isn't ok aswell ....
anyway , it is nice to get back on topic here ....

Ah so a hardware one...I see. Which particular model? And with what sort of additional hardware do you connect it to your DAW? Interface? Mixer? I had thoughs of connecting an external compressor to my setup at one stage but decided to stick to software instead because it's just so much more cost and space effective.
Funny though, I never noticed any of this in your setup photo... What sort of setup hardware do you have then?
Btw the only way I can see that compressing and limiting separetly isn't the best way to do it is because of precision rounding errors. So when the compressor effect is applied in 48-bit, it rounds it back down to 30-bit float or 24-bit, before doing the same thing with the limiter plugin. Is this the reason you mean as well?
