I've decided to make a CTG Mix based on the genre 'electronica'.
According to Wikipedia, electronica is a rather vague term (which appears to have originated in the United States) that covers a wide range of electronic or electronic-influenced music. The term usually relates to modern electronic music that is not necessarily designed for the dance-floor, but rather for home listening. It was originally used to refer to a list of then-uncategorizable post-rave music that drew upon different genres and sounds that did not necessarily have a steady dancefloor beat. It currently covers a wide variety of styles from the bristling and experimental styles or for home listening such as IDM, glitch, to the dub-oriented downtempo and downbeat to the more jazz-inflected styles of trip-hop and nu jazz. The categories such as IDM, glitch and chip music share much in common with the art and musique concrète styles which predate it by several decades.
Since the early 1990s electronica has been invading clubs in Europe and North America, and although known for being more abstract and experimental than techno, it often has an underlying rhythm.
So it's gonna be a mix somewhat away from the previous, more mainstream mixes and so I'm asking if anyone has any tracks on CTG or perhaps know any other tracks to recommend for it. Unfortunately I won't be able to include tracks right from when CTG Music was started since I just won't be able to download that many in that short a time, so I've decided to take those released from January 1 2004 to June 30 2004.
The CTG Electronica Mix can accept tracks from a wide range of sub genres including IDM, glitch and downtempo, as well as slightly more danceable genres oriented towards progressive electronica, such as progressive house and progressive techno. In simple terms, it will be somewhat in between the recently released CTG House Mix, and the CTG Chillout Mix from a few months back.
Currently I've already downloaded most of the tracks from the electro, house and downtempo genres, particularly those which had the wanted sub genres listed, and made a selection of what I and other reviewers considered to be the best. So if anyone has any tracks they'd like to be considered as well, or have any other tracks they'd like to recommend, post it here and let me know. The finished results should then be available some time within the frst week of July.

Oh, almost forgot...for those who might be working on a previously unreleased track that would fit this mix, be sure to release it before 30 June if you want it to be considered as well.

It would be easier, I guess, if you could list the songs you consider to be in the mix, so ppl can discuss it and recommend (other, non listed) songs based on the selection.
Hehe, the mix has to be very kewl after this campaign, you know.

The tracks I currently have are:
Alfred Gale - Alchohol Free (Jeff Hil0)
Dezine - Digital Electric Dream
deFusion - Paddo
Dreaw_lk - Pleiades
elektronaut - Like Words
Harry Cho Cho Romero - I Want You Back (Lazz Noir's Spiked Beats 2004 Rmx)
SlicerXXL - Spirits Of Nature
Theris - Following
Valzihjken - Telebooth, Come Back
And other, slightly less appropriate ones:
dr3amz - Life Ends
Dreaw_lk - OverLight
Kricke - Justice In The End
Though good tracks, I found them to be a little too ambient sounding...something more for the CTG Chillout Mix series.
And currently downloading:
Sonicasy - Matthijs B - Blurred Wonder (Sonicasy Remix)
PNFA - Headlights Flashing
cyborgjeff & Crazy Man - happyness is out of control
Nifflas - T-Beat
acecream: I would check those out, except that most of them have been released prior to January 1 2004. I'd like to include tracks made before this time too, but then I'd have to download so many more and catagorise them all and I'd just end up with far too many. It'll be fair on the artists you mentioned, but others will be forgotten and it just wouldn't be a fair 'best of electronica' mix.

Also, I know electronica is listed as being quite a wide genre, but I've decided to make things easier and take a slightly personal direction by excluding anything too experimental, ambient, easy listening or pop sounding. Including elements of progressive house and progressive techno would be cool, but I'd like to try and keep this one separate and unique from the CTG House Mix as well, while also not treading in the way of the Chillout Mix series. I don't think I'll include anything in line with trip-hop either, but I haven't quite decided on that yet so if anyone feels a trip-hop track should be included, let me know.

Thanks!
And I've actually re-thought this a bit and now WILL be using tracks from the experimental, trip-hop and nu-jazz type catagories of electronica as well. I was designing the album cover yesterday and sinc electronica really covers experimental, IDM, glitch, downtempo, downbeat, tip-hop and nu-jazz in a nutshell, I thought it would be silly to exclude half of those. Besides, it'll be a good chance for me to become a bit more familiar with the experimental genre anyway. I'm really looking forward to start mixing now, only I still have more tracks to download.

There's the release date problem again though...it was added on the 13th November 2003 and if I include this, I'll have to consider all songs released before January 1 2004 and it would just be too big a project for me to take on. If it ends up being a success, I'd like to keep creating these mixes every 6 months, so there'd be two volumes per year. And if I consider all tracks released since CTG was launched this time around, it would just stuff things up.
Of course I might be able to browse through the database and pick all tracks rated 8 or higher, but reviews are so subjective and some might have only one review and others were just 'lucky'. I really don't like idea of doing this.
