Is there anybody here which got some experience on how to get some sort of quality in Reason? Is the trick simply to use lots of eq, vocoders and compressors? Or is the mastering afterwards most important.. (T-Racks and similar programs?). I manage to get some sort of quality, but i want it to be better! :S

It is totaly up to you, how you tweak effects and how you layer sounds. Simply doing nice layout with different panning setups, seperating sounds with different freq. types like having basses in the middle and hi freqs. on the sides. The mastering should be just extra you should not relay on t-racks.

Im not sure how exactly would you like to improve quality, if you want more sharper sound you can use equalizers on sounds to raise some frequenzies.

I think doing some "fake" compressor tricks is not best decision for reason becouse you simply have stand alone software made just for compression and the result should be better that way.

So rather then trying to fix up the quality with compresors and mastering try to concentrate more on the production itself, use different setups for delays, reverbs and other effects, try to make sounds distinctive and cleaer and so on.

I agree with acecream, every artist has to come up with his own settings, and it will come when you work enough with the program.

The thing I like in production are the advanced reverb, the screamer and the unison. There is no predefined trick however, but if you connect the instrument to a screamer, then the advanced reverb, then eq and compress maybe a little, then send it to the mixer, where you put additional effects (like unison), you might have a full sound at the end.

Every instrument has its own characteristics, and once you play enough with only the mixing and effects (for days and nights), you will have your own setup, which with you can work easier and quicker when you compose your next songs.

I believe that reason is capable of producing high quality tracks without too much support from other progs.

Yes, i have to agree, there is no shortcuts to good sound.
The only thing you need is experience.
A good sense of sound, the right knowleage and in some cases the right tools.

I think that fruity sometimes gives me bad treble and i have to use T-racks to get that "extra-crispy" sound.

Or maby it's just me who needs better knowleage :excited:

Definately practice. Just like learning a real instrument, you have to learn your instrument. Also if you prefer doing a certain style, classsical for instance, its good to listen to alot of classical music and see how it's "supposed to sound".

Advise always works too. Just let someone listen to your music and ask what's wrong with the quality.
You' re always as good as your last song.

I see.. Work, learn, work, learn.. :) But, Acecream, you do the mastering yourself? You couldn't be interested in mastering a song for me? A friend of mine and I, are working on some new stuff now.. If you want to do it, can i send you a personal message or something when it's finished?

I do mastering, Reason output simply needs to be atleast normalized. I use T-racks so you cant really expect some advanced mastering from me, but if you want i can run your song in t-racks and send it back to you.
