Sleep it off and start again fresh the next day - usually helps for me too.

Works the opposite for me, late in night I have more inspiration

Yeah I know what you mean, I have the same too. But I mean if you're stuck with no inspiration to begin with. Since you can't force yourself to be inspired and write music, sleeping, or like people say, taking a break, is what helps me in that sense.

Hi there music buddy :) This may sound silly to you, but a music friend ones told me that it was a good idea to start remixing tracks if I had any problems by finding the perfect melodies inside my mind. I know you're remixing tracks at the moment, so my only advice would be: Keep Up The Good Work :)

If you play an instrument (in a band), I'd suggest you go and make a song for the band with the other members. Or simply, make a coop with someone, in face to face (not by using IRC or anything).
At least it helps for me, sharing ideas with someone else.

The melody is actually the easiest thing for me to come up with. Every once and a while I either get stuck, or my melodies get too complicated. When this happens, I either switch instruments (if you play more than one), or I just improvise some solo's to the chord progression I am working on, and see if anything seems to have any possibilities, or I layer a few sounds (piano layered with acoustic guitar works good) by playing two different keyboards at the same time, one left hand, the other right hand. That causes you to actually think what you are playing rather than just play the same things you usually do.
ANother cool thing is go with a scale you aren't used to. Base the melody on some out there scale, like a diminished, arabian, whole tone, or even an outside pentatonic.. I've had songs go in totally different directions by doing that.
One final idea, find a guitarist or horn player you like, and have him solo over the backing chords, tell him it doesn't have to be polished at all. Then listen to what he did, you might find something to go off on there. Horn and guitar players look at melody totally different than a keyboard player would.
And oh yea, we all have slumps. When I get in one I do collabs for other people, organ parts here and there, maybe a synth or brass part. It causes you to get out of your rut and into theirs
