I also used to have a track by Fatboy Slim called "Song For Lindy" which was amazing too. Have no idea where it went to though. |
It's still right there on the better living through chemistry cd, which I will listen to right away. Thanks for the reminder!

Just had to edit my first post with a couple of new additions. The backing vocals in "Dido - Don't Leave Home (Gabriel & Dresden Remix)" feature one of the best cathedral reverbs I've ever heard. The air is so cold in there. I just wish it were slightly louder.
Then there's also the synth used in the verses of "Oceanlab - Beautiful Together", not to mention the incredible vocals of Justine Suissa in the line "Couldn't stop the way I'm feeling, now"

I miss that track. Lost it when my hard drive died and I don't download MP3s anymore because of the low quality. Where would you buy tracks like that on CD? Anyone know?

hmmz.. there prolly are CD's in holland with that track on it. You could also ask for the song on CD at your local vinyl-shop.

Cheers, I'll look into it. But "local vinyl shop" in New Zealand?

Wow, I just bought Max Graham's "Transport" album and "Greed feat. Lesley - Strange World (Blackwatch 'King Monkey Dub')" really has an impressive amount of deep bass.
46 Hz for this one whereas "Hamel + Noble present Mess - Cubism (Praha Remix)" is centred at 44 Hz. It's just too bad the sound is so limited.

"Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi!" taken from the album "Enigma³ - Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi!" - now there's an example of perfect EQ work. A lot of similar ambient tracks I've heard coming out of the scene ("MarculuM feat. Cheyenne - Amazonas" is a classic example I can think of) don't have the bass range EQd right, while the mids and highs should be well defined - not muddy. The bass in "Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi!" is strong, yet not overpowering, while those beautifully crafted vocals spread perfectly overtop the captivating soundscape.
Really, if there's one tip I can give regarding EQ, I'd point out again that less bass is more bass. Define your bass range properly with a hi-pass equaliser.
