I loooved the soundtrack of "Timemachine" and the pirate soundtrack wasn't bad either imho, I just wasn't sure if this kind of music was suited for a movie like that... Maybe something more like the "Cutthrout Island" soundtrack would've been better for the movie.

Well, the music itself wasn't that bad. In my opinion, it was mediocre (i.e. it doesn't bother me, but I don't find it good either). But like you said, it wasn't suitable for a pirates movies. And the orchestration was terrible. I'm not saying Klaus Badelt is a bad composer, but maybe he uses the same style in many movies, and sometimes this style is not adequate. His soundtrack for that movie with Al Pacino and Colin Farrel (I don't remember the title) wasn't bad at all. But an electronic soundtrack was quite suitable, although, I might say, it didn't impress me either.
nait: you're right. It was "Raiders...". Of course ET won the Oscar. Both are incredible soundtracks. I still can't believe how "Chariots of Fire" beat "Raiders..." 
As to Vangelis' filmography, here it is. Notice, however, that many of all those credits are not real, since they don't correspond to soundtracks composed by him, but to movies in which music composed by him is used, i.e. the same way Mozart music was used in Amadeus. I just saw in the list a nice soundtrack by Vangelis I like: the one from "Missing". Great movie by Costa-Gavras.
