Ace, you should try the mod where you can hold the flashlight and your gun together. I know it's a little cheating, but then you can at least see where you shoot at |

I think you can not really say that original doom had any story or atleast not something which most of people would notice. You just appeared in "level 1" had to kill every one and repeat this over all the levels. So i dont see any really story line. |
That was because no one cared about the story, because the game kicked ass anyway But if you were interested, there were actually a story to read in the original Doom, in a text file. I dont remember exactly, maybe in the manual. And it is the same story as in the new Doom game - only this time the game itself are more faithful to the story.
But this one has it and it is very like halflife. Im not sure if you played the game yet but if you didnt i really dont see how can you argument everything based just on what you think it looks like. |
I basicly know what all this is about to make statements like these.
And belive me that ID surely didnt made or intent to make this one for old fans only. They surely want to reach as wide market as possible so making it just like old doom surely cant work nowdays since people expect more from games then just shooting down the enemies and procceeding to elevators. (which is the case here... i mean even the elevator ).
Gonna play it some more now since it is quite fun. |
The old fans were the main-motivation although not the only goal.

Ive got doom3, played it for hours and hours, but the first few times i had to stop playing, becuase i got frustrated with dying, and the intensity of the game wears u out, being on edge everyseconds really drains ya, and i must say scariest game ive played, its not really a story based game, for people playing it hoping it is, they wilkl be let down, but the graphics and attention to detail in the game is immense, if u watch the character animation its brilliant, i didnt see much physics really, but the way the monsters are done are awesome, like spiders coming out of tiny holes, and the the way the move etc, brilliant.fans of original dooms will love this, where as people like myself will play it and probably never play it again. still top game and sets a new standard (unitll stalker, and half life 2 come out).

Yeah, this game is kinda exhausing. You have to be on your gards at every corner.
Just had to fight that beast whixh is a mix of a spider and an imp. Bah, what an ugly thing that was. And I think it was hard to beat that thing.
I hope the end boss won't be too much trouble. I hate games with an almost immortal boss. Like in Painkiller |

The most exhausting game I've ever played was Creatures 2. Not scary, but incredibly difficult. I could play it only for a half a hour at one session.
But it was great.

I just visited the site of Polish distributor of the game.
IT COSTS 200 PLN IN POLAND!!!
It's unbelivable... Some games (like Etherlords 1 & 2, Messiah and many others) costed 30 PLN from the first day of distribution, while Doom3 will costs 200...
It's unbelivable crap. And it looks like the Linux version is not distributed here...

I think the linux binaries aren't released yet. They will be available on ID's site and will weight about 20Mb.
Oh by the way, those new ati drivers for linux released last week are working great on the 2.6.x kernel. Just install the rpm in configure fglrx and that's all. Man, the result is like day and night. Screw those native mesa drivers
Euh, when is Poland gonna switch to the euro????

I got 1 frame/sec more with the new drivers.
About those crashes, I heard a lot of people complaining about that. Some compatibility problem I guess. Does it freeze or realy crash to desktop? |
