How much effort do you put into naming your pieces?
Do you consider the title to be an integral part of the piece itself, or do you name your tunes more or less randomly for practical reasons only? |

it isnt really that important. Sure its nice if the title are somehow connected with the song, but its really not that important!
I wouldn't think less or more of a song just because of the title...

In general, I just name my pieces because I have too. A title is not part of the piece. We're talking about a musical piece. The title is not a musical element, and therefore, is not part of the piece. Whether a piece of music is good or bad, as nothing to do with the title.
On the other hand, I believe the title can have some influence on the listener. It can help the listener to listen to the piece from a certain perspective. However, that happens with some tracks and not with others. I happens with those tracks that have some inspiration in an image, or in real life, or something like that. It doesn't happen to tracks that are purely musical. In general, the former are easier to name than the latter.
For example: the track "Warriors of the Savannah" was really easier to name. I made it with the intention of making an "African" like track. It was inspired by movies that take place in Africa, and I was thinking more of places like Kenya, where there is a savannah. There are also warriors that run through the savannah. It wasn't difficult to come up with a title. The same happened with "Caravan of Camels": it was an oriental sounding track.
Then we have "Free Man's Tango". I made it with the sole intention of making a modern tango piece. I didn't think of an image or a scene. It wasn't inspired by anything extra-musical. So, I couldn't come up with a title. I just thought I'd name it something-Tango. I rememberd there's a tango by Piazzolla called "Libertango" (a mixture of the words "Libertad", which means freedom, and "Tango"). As I value freedom a lot, I thought it'd be nice to call it "Free Man's Tango". The title, though, sucks, and has nothing to do with the track.
I also think that if a listener who reviews a track discovers in the track the same elements that the title suggests, they will be more inclined to give a higher rating.
In conclusion, in my opinion, from a strictly musical point of view, the title means nothing, but in practice, it can help.
From Darkness To Light, my newest track.

Sometimes (mostly) the title is important for me, because it's a way to show the listener what the song reminds me of. I personally think, that it's good to tell the listener about it.

For me, the title is part of the song so I always take my time to make it correct. Maybe it`s just the lack of my composing skills but I find creating a well-bordered, at least semi-obvious background for a song with only using musical approach many times impossible.
So giving a title is the end of my musical and technical work on a track.

Title is the real "intro" of the song.

Sometimes the title jumps into my mind when i make it and sometimes i really have to think hard about finding a good title.
It also depends on what the song means to me.
But i have to say that the title mostly decides when i want to download that song or not , just like a book cover , horrible covers don't wanna make you read a book.
Tracks with titles like >this< sure get a lot more attention i think |

Yeah, titles can attract downloads. But can make people now want to download too. That's the case of the song Javier mentioned ("horny xhiq gets it on"). Why? It doens't sound like the track has been seriously composed. On the other hand, if it's not music what you're looking for...
