Nowadays everything is highly based on high-quality sound to make the listener feel concrete things. Before, sound quality wasn't an advantage as nowadays, in fact it was an obstacle and the way they managed to get those feelings is what really makes that music special. Now we're going back to the beginin, forgeting melodies and making rythm-based music.

Music in general (changed the question a bit now).
Still i thought options like: "Music was best 20 years ago" made it clear enought allreay

Commercial music was without a doubt at its highlight around 20 years ago (funny that there was an alternative for it) while it dropped pretty much in the 2nd half of the 90's and still being decreased unfortunately. We can only hope that there will be a big change about this again, more attention to music quality instead of... Well, you know...
When we're speaking of amateur CTG artists, I just have to say; keep it up! I can't name one that doesn't improve big time
Not so funny signature. |

In proportion, music gets worse, because as time goes by, the amount of people that is able to make music gets higher. Today it's easy to make music than it was before. So, the avergage quality decreases. Nevertheless, as much more people make music, in absolute values, the amount of high quality music is lots of times higher. And that's what matters, becase nobody forces you to listen to bad music, and you have much more quality music to choose from. And the access to it is easier. And the quality of recordings is better. Also, I think performances of old music are better nowadays, because instruments have evolved and a lot of study has gone on. So, I think music just gets better. There is a lot more crap out there, but there is more good music too. This is, of course, just an opinion, and it's not based on strong foundations.
From Darkness To Light, my newest track.

I don't know, really Depends how you compare the difficulty of making the music. Playing guitar for instance doesn't require any musical knowledge, and can only be done (correct me if I'm wrong) if you have that "gift". On the other hand, electronic music can be learned, but you need lots of knowledge (stuff about synths e.g.), but ofcourse you can learn that particular knowledge.
So, I don't know, I'm just talking shit here

Computer generated music was in its prime from 1989-1999. Now to call music "computer generated" would be met with, "well duh! of course a computer was used to make it!". There's nothing unique about digital anymore.
You know as well as I that those days are gone. |
