Everyone -

i would like to hear and discuss some ideas here regarding keys and modes and related concepts...

the thing i am after is new ideas for music with particular emotions...

What, in your OPINION, is the most Beautiful KEY or MODE or PROGRESSION which expresses the most profound feelings of sadness, pensiveness, disconsolate, heartbroken, melancholy, etc...

i happen to connect with music like the most - i love MANY kinds of music and many emotions of varying styles - but that SOUND which i ca not entirely describe (unfortunately) is what i am after...

any ideas?

what about transposition? i mean - the human brain appears to resonate at very particular frequencies for different states of emotion and consciousness... so i am also wondering if the same identical progression would be more effective at particular positions in the frequency (musical) spectrum versus others... Keys played lower having a lower average frequency maybe 'harmonizing' with brain-wave frequencies that are lowered? i don't know... would, maybe, keys played higher be associated with higher emotions? or just more intense emotions?

and what about intervals? is it more in the relationships of the intervals contained within the progressions that does it?

ideas?

help!

Diminished? Harmonic? Melodic? what?

or is that just a line from a famous poem? :)

I used this progression in "Midnight on the street": E F# B, E G B, E F# A, D F# A. Try it! It works for strings and chillout tunes! :lovemusic:

Or if u want a good ol'-fashioned scary seq, check out my "Fear of Dog" song! The seq is this: C D D# G D# D. Try that one too in the scary part of a song, like in a bridge with beat an' lots of SFX, it should create a scary but interesting atmosphere! :lovemusic: ;)

Actually it's D E F G A Bb C# D :)

But it can also be D E F G A Bb C D depending on the type of the minor scale. Unfortunately I can only talk about those things in Polish :(

Bb means actually the same as A#. The difference between them is clearly theoretical.
