Can anybody show me some pictures etc?I manage to get ok quality, but there are so many other artists that gets much better quality than i do.. :

I think you need sources. Tons of sources and watch caraefuly how everything is wired. I learned a lot like this.

I still don't get tho why most reason users nowadays put like 4 vocoders before the sound device. Every vocoder is used as a freq filter. When you bypass all the vocoders you barely hear any difference :s But maybe it's just cool to have vocioders in your track :)

dude, if you want good soundquality you need pretty good knowledge about the tools you are using and the most importand, a very trained ear.

there are no shortcuts to get a good soundquality, it's something you learn after plenty of practicing. (with my own experience as basis)

so even though it seems like you are going nowhere i'm sure you are improve for each new track you are pulling off.
you know each new track is a new lesson and after some time you will build up a good sense of what sounds right and what sounds bad. :)

what whirloop said - you will just naturally improve over time, listen to your own tracks a lot and you'll see how your newer stuff has improved sound quality wise.

if it hasnt - then you need to stop, and work harder on that area, just by playing around - its how most of us learnt.

some hard work ahead im afraid, there's no `easy` fix ;)

Hey IKO! http://mindscraps.com/s/otn/happy/wave.gif

If you're talking about the mastering in the mix you probably mean the mixing. Kricke opened a topic about mixing which you can find here. People wrote down some basic guidelines they follow and maybe they are helpful for you. These are of course not for Reason specifically but might still give a good impression of what effects to use

I'm definately no pro... so I do two simple things.

To make the song clear and crisp I boost the high frequencies in almost every channel.

If the song needs lows and mid's I tranpose it down a key or two. :D

Also I use very little reverb now, and EQ the reverb to cut out mids as well as very high frequencies.

Then I send the song to VP or DDspeed and see if they complain. :D

I'm not really familiar wiith Reason and not exactly sure how exactly you're wanting to improve the quality of the sound, but you simply can't mix without mastering - hence I'm not sure I understand and agree with what you say about "mastering in the mix". Compression is usually the processor missing in this sort of case, and you won't be able to mix (i.e. set volumes and panning of tracks) without it as you need to give your instruments an even volume to begin with.

So if it's pictures of mastering processors you want for particular sounds, then I'm happy to upload some. Just watch out with boosting high frequencies as obScene discribes though. Cutting back on the bottom end usually has a better and more natural effect in bringing out the higher frequencies, so always try that first. Also don't use any shelf equaliisers to boost the top end as you'll be targetting more noise rather than sound - peak EQs are the way to go in that case.

But really, if you find you have to EQ a lot than you probably don't have very good sounds to begin with. In most cases you just need to strap a good multi-band across your tracks and use hi-pass filters to shape the bass range properly. :lovemusic:

Good quality in Reason?

First: Good, clear sounds.
Second: EQ
Third: even more EQ.
Fourth: Compress

And how to make all this sound good?

Practise.

Fifth: Compress before EQ (unless you're deliberately wanting the compressor to react to a part of the sound you've just adjusted with EQ).

Sorry if that was already the intention but I just had to make it clearer. :martini:
