First of, thumbs up for the initiative concerning this site. There can't be portals enough, although one must keep in mind not to fill a gap that isn't there...in other words: what is the added value of this site with respect to homemusic.cc?

Anyway, back to my original intention of writing: reviews. A song of mine got 60 out of 100, which is no problem. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, is a very true saying, and I shall not disagree if the reason is obvious.
Thing is: the reason wasn't obvious. Rathing drum 'n bass rather low because the reviewer found it 'repetitive' is a weird reason. If one thinks 'addicted to bass' or 'freestyler' are blueprints for drum 'n bass, one is wrong ;) The strength of drum 'n bass (and techno, and ambient, and so on) lays in its being of repetitive music. Ofcourse, it can be too repetitive, fair enough, but when you compare trance to drum 'n bass, it would be the same as comparing women to sheep...or something like that.

My point: make guides for reviewers. Don't start wildgrow in the proces of giving feedback. Homemusic.cc does a fairly good job concerning this proces, and Madtracker also has decent head reviewers who check the reviews before they can be submitted (Enigmatic and Yannick himself). Try to implement this system also here, because else all reviews are kind of worthless.

And no...I shall not participate in this process; busy enough already @ madtracker :D

Kind regards,
Quinone / Inge

First off all I respect your thoughts very well .
But what u are all saying is just a matter of taste , we have chosen to do no rating system like HM or MT .
Also ... I am really well known with D&B , Ambient , and also , Metal , Rock , Rap , Hi-Hop and so on :)
Hehe , in fact ... I am listening more to Hip/Hop , Rock and D&B than trance .
So that I am producing Trance/Hardcore/Techno and other stuff, doesn't mean I am talking crap !
Also ... that review were my thoughts , maybe there is someone who thinks it must have a 80% rate , I dunno , but then it is gotat be reviewed first !
This site is just 1 day fully online , so u cannopt day anything about your track right now , maybe it will not be reviewed anymore , maybe it will 5 times in the next upcoming month .
Anyway ..... I am not a complete noob , and you will just have to respect the words ...

Otherwise t seems you are the one who is not standing the heat :P ....
Anyway , be patience , de site is not finished yet , and there sure will be more reviews ...

Te beauty of a reviewing system like CTG lies in the fact that one gets honest opinions, not just some kind words from reviewers that just happen to like you as a person and do not dare to write the sometimes demotivating, desillusionating and even terrible truth about one's music. The fact that 10 people love your music does not mean everyone shares the same opinion.

Like often seen on for instance Traxinspace / Homemusic / Tranceinspace there's allways a group of connected people in every musical genre that form the incrowd of that specific genre. Those people write beautifull reviews for eachother, throwing 10's and 9's in eachothers laps...which will result in an even greater review for one's own music. C'mon....that is THE most lame thing around. Offcourse it's great to read good things about your own music......but do fake words work stimulating:?:

Anyway....I make trancemusic myself.....but does that say i am a complete idiot when it comes to judging other styles? The fact that i make trance does not say i don't listen other genres....on the contrary: I dig Ambiënt and Hardhouse even more ! :smoke:

So be glad we have freedom of speech on this new site.......:hail: ;)

My golly, how much I agree on this...
To be honest, I don't call this a reviewing system, since there is no system, no rules, you can rant along and give 100 or talk about dictionaries and rate something 10...

It's just some regular feedback... I fear that once this site starts rollin allright, this system will get abused, raped, turned over and it will be HELL to fix it...
The intention is okay, but like this... it's too free like Quinone mentioned. In the future, I think this system can't be trusted anymore... and I'm afraid it is already starting since I got a "review" of 2 lines and then I got rated 90. I want to thank the person who loved my song and wanted to leave some comments about it, really!

But it has nothing to do with reviewing, in my opinion.

Your charts position will not be calculated with that little review only .. it will work with more stuff ,(daily downloads and stuff like that) .... So don;t worry , the system will be nice :)

I find the reviews a little too subjective, and not objective enough...a good review should contain about 25% subjectivity and 75% objectivity, so stating that a song is "not catchy enough" makes it all a little less trustworthy. Personally I think now, that the reviews are 25% objectivity and 75% subjectivity. Please try to do something about this as most ppl out there have completely different taste...

Other than that, it's nice that reviews r done so fast :)

To put my 2 cents: It's great that CTG differs and wants to differ from other sites, even though imho the HM system is very good.

Well I think if you start to add things to the system now, you will have something as comlex as HM before you look back. :ups: But on the contrary, there is a serious danger that all that DJ Keys wrote about will take place. I think some monitoring should be done and 9s and 10s should be checked maybe.

I wish this site all the best and I do like the concept. I'm a little afraid that narrow minded ppl will spoil it in future...

szartd, I shall quote you:

Otherwise t seems you are the one who is not standing the heat

True, that's because I already said it about myself.

But to end any flamewars (and I shall direct my word to Szartd, because he seems to take responsibility): this topic was meant as constructive feedback, and not as an attack ;) I just want to share my thoughts, and give a possible outcome of the ratingsystem that wouldn't do your site much good. Please think about the rating system *very good* before you make a final version.

Kind regards,
Quinone / Inge

ps: and to be honoust, you can't defend the system with saying that you just started it, and that it still contains flaws. That's like releasing a tune, getting negative feedback, and mention afterwards that it was just a beta edit. Rule of thumb concerning feedback: always accept feedback, and think how to implement it, and never try to devaluate it.

Oh, and before I forget to mention it: thank you in the first place for the review! Opinions may differ, but good intentions should always be rewarded. Wanted to do this by email, but 'lekkerhoor' is a beautiful dutch phrase, but a rather invalid email account :D

Kind regards,
Quinone / Inge
