| I don't really like this idea. If the song is bad, no promotion will help it. IMHO it would be better to pay more attention to the music itself then to it's promotion - sometimes ppl at CTG forget that music is not ratings and votes. |

Music is not promotion, votes, numbers, clicks or anything like that, that is very true.
And promotion will not help any bad song to be better. Unless you review it and give supportive feedback.
The idea is there for fun and for activity. I slightly dislike the idea of inserting an idea of OSMusic, but hell, there is nothing wrong with it, and we discussed this with ace quite long how we can apply here (the best options for the daily compo).
And the reason behind is simple: one song is picked from the non reviewed list, so we might reduce the non reviewed song list while we give artists some extra promotion (randomly) to listen him / her. One song is picked from the most active reviewers, thus an extra reward to the promo songs and the rotw. Since our most popular songs are suported in all kinds of charts, I believe it is a better idea to compete within these songs than within the most popular ones. But that is up to discussion.
And, this is an additional system, nothing will dissapear.

On the contrary, music has allot to do with promotion, votes etc etc.
People can rely on two hints for the quality of the music they're downloading: 1) The artist who composed it (if they know his/her's previous works) 2) Outside feedback, promotion and hearsay.
I would say that a big part of music is to have people listen to your music. Outside feedback and promotion is a big part of it, and such a competition could increase the quality of promotion and feedback in this site.

well, I think it would be good to try. In case it won't be such a good thing we can always delete it from the site, right?
But as a represantative of ppl with low connections, I can say that I won't be able to vote since I'll have to dld three songs which is impossible for me and only then vote. That means I probably won't be able to participate in the daily voting process.  |
