A metal xylophone?
Gosh that reverb is shrill Somewhere between 3-6khz, probably just the OGG encoding though.
There's no place like 127.0.0.1 |

Hehe, no it's the sample. It's an 8-bit sample rendered out of MODPlug Tracker.
"Metal xylophone" doesn't really help me though. I think it's some orchestral and/or oriental instrument and I need to know the exact name so I can download the appropriate VSTi.

It's kind of hard to tell for anyone who isn't really into this sort of stuff. At the other hand, if you have the chance to try some sampler/rompler, and go trough all bell presets, perhaps you can find one which sounds similar - and look at the name to figure out what the instrument is - and then get your super high quality samples somewhere online...... erm.... (or maybe not... but if you have some synths nearby it could be worth a try.)
Fortunately, my music is much more interesting than my posts. |

That's true, but I was thinking Gopher, PPH, or any other classical/world composer might know, saving me the time of finding out myself. But you're right, I will look myself too.
No I don't have a hardware synth nearby…or at least not a very good one anyway. But there's always software too. Thanks though.

It's a synthesized sound, most probably by using phase modulation (Yamaha DX7 for instance). It sounds like vibes with a little touch of tubular bells or something.
A VSTi like FM7 (although freeware ones should do the job as well) will help you create this kind of sound (and I bet there are many presets that sound like this bundled with them as well). If you prefer samples you should try to find something named "dx vibes", "dx bells" or something like that. |

Thanks, Zepsi.
It's not really a synthesised sound I'm after actually, but rather a real version of the instrument. So a vibraphone would probably do it then, otherwise I might look into a synthesised one in case it does work out better.

I think the closest resemblence would be a xylophone. |
