Do you tune your kick and bass? [MUSIC]

Do you tune your kick and bass?
Yes, always
I've never really given it much thought
If only I knew how to
I don't think it's necessary :eyes:

Atlantis, I see you are in very right path when heading towards music engineering, since this perfectionism is obviously fundamental ability for it. As from creative side it appears to be burden, details wont let you finish artwork :)

On topic, my ear is pretty accurate and I can tune samples usually by ear...and trust it. Sometimes wrong, coz its not absolute :)

Thanks. :) :hail: It all plays into why I stopped producing and went on to doing all this boring technical stuff. :D

Yep, I think that when we have 50 years of musical experience behind us we're able to do this sort of thing by ear accurately, only by then we can't hear frequencies above 15 kHz anymore. :badday: Visual feedback and digital controls are among the best inventions in music engineering I think. It's only too bad most VSTis continue to stick to the old analogue interface, although I guess that's what musicians prefer to use. :)

Sometimes I use autotune for bass and eq bass & kick to make this "punch" together. Of course it's not this simple becouse compressor is in big part here.

You can kind of control bass drum tune from eq, I'm not sure if I really understand it becouse this sound weird, but if kick sound is strange or is not in the tune, little eq can usually fix this.

I do it when it sounds obviously out of tune with the key I'm playing in. Ideally, I'll pick a kick that is the same rootnote of the song's key.
