Just a funny conundrum for those who are bored enough to read this. I've just had the third pair of headphones on my comp in a few months die on me. In all three the exact same thing happened. The left channel sounds quiet and possibly unseated but on closer inspection, it only sounds quieter because there are several frequency ranges that just don't play on the left side anymore (mostly low frequecies). This occurring without any physical trauma or anything. The question I'm starting to ask myself now is... could it be remotely possibly that MY SOUNDCARD is damaging all my headphones? That seems like such a weird idea to me and I didn't even think of it until I realized that this was exactly what my last set of SPEAKERS for this comp sounded like (left channel not playing the full frequency range). It just seems very odd to me to have four different output devices, three of them from different brands, fail in exactly the same way within weeks of being plugged in.
Input welcome.

Well I can't imagine that your soundcard destroyed the headphones/speakers. Does the problem happen immediately from when you plug it in or does it start later? Are you using a different cable for each device, or the same one? Have you tested these headphones in other devices after the problem arises? Could it be a problem with your hearing in that ear? Just some thoughts
This rose is for you only, my absent friend
It has bloomed in the garden of my subconciousness
In the tragedy I wish not to comprehend

I assumed you tried the headphones on other output devices like a stereo?

THM: after reading your comments, I realized that it might be my extender cord. I didn't realize I had used it with all three sets until your post made me think about it more. I know it's faulty so maybe there's a point at which it cuts in and out too fast and zaps the affected headphone.
Time for another trip to radio shack...
Incidentally I do have partial hearing loss but it's on the right side, not the left, so when the right channel on my headphones sounds twice as loud during a stereo test, I know something is seriously wrong.
