..the neighbour on the floor _above_ me rang the bell and complained about loud music. "What? Loud music distburbing you late into the night like 02-03 am day after day?", I answered. "Noo, not me..."
Ok, truth me told, I admitted to the crime and said I would use headphones in the future. She seemed to be happy with it.
The thing is that I was on a music roll today and when that happens the world outside disappears, so I wasn't even aware I was making a hell of a noise and that it was so late either. I was in the middle of a brand new saxophone solo for gods sake! :-)
The funny thing is that my neigbour on the _same_ floor haven't said a thing about loud music. It seems that the floors aren't as protective of bass waves as the walls are, though they are both made out of concrete(!)
Are there anyone out there beeing able to play music loud at night without complains? |

Yep, me
And since the night is mostly the most inpirational time I'm pretty lucky there. My appartment is kinda like a bungalow behind the actual appartment building, kinda in the backyard. In summer is hot as hell and in the winter it can get really cold but I never get complaints about loud music at night

Damn you're luck! Now we could start one of those Monthy Python inspired dialogues where we try to convince each other who has it worst.
Inspirationwise the same goes for me. I get most inspiration in the twighlight between awakeness and sleep, which means late nights. I've tried making music in the middle of the day but I can't focus on the music at all. |

If the summer isn't too hot and the winter isn't too cold it's ok. But in 2003 both were pretty extreme and at that time it didn't matter if I could be as loud as I wanted, when you're freezing your ass off there might not be too much motivation left to compose
But I can understand that it must be hard with neighbors complaining... Especially since headphones don't always give you the entire impression, especially when you're working with strong kicks and deep bass sounds (which of course really drive your neighbors mad) Maybe you'd have to invent some kinda inflatable soundproof bubble for those occasions
Talking about late at night.... damn, gotta go to bed, got carried away again

Yeah, headphones isn't the best thing. My speakers are floor standing ones which I have layn on my big wooden desk. Add to that a box-shaped room with little on the walls you get pretty nasty heavy bass. I guess that's what been drivin' my neighbour mad. Makes me seasick too some times.
G'night mate. |

No, but this reminds me of a story.....
once I lived in an apartment, and the guy below me had this loose ceiling fan that would swing back and forth as it ran, making a pecking sound " peck ... peck... peck" Anyway I had just got my new TV and surround system and really was into the whole enjoying the immersing in sound thing.
whaterver
anyway, this damn pecking noise drove me insane. I mentioned it to him once, but he never fixed it. So I rigged up a microphone on the floor, right above the place where the fan was, and then turned my speakers on full blast, with as much bass as possible, and then laid all the speakers face down on the floor so it would blast the sound back at him.
After a while I noticed he turned the fan off. And then back on for a few seconds, as like he was thinking "WTF!?!?" He turned it off, back on, and finally turned it off for good. After that he must have fixed the damned thing cause I never heard it again.

Awesome
And no, I live in a big house, and I usually use headphones but when I use speakers I can still crank them up as loud as I like with noone else hearing
This rose is for you only, my absent friend
It has bloomed in the garden of my subconciousness
In the tragedy I wish not to comprehend

Haha! Indeed, you're lucky to have a concrete ceiling! My ceiling is made of pieces of wood and has lots of holes in it, when the neigbour is mad coz of music he can throw things and me from his apartment.
On topic: If I played loud music at night, I'd be dead now. If the neigbours did that, they'd be dead too.
I would put a tax on all people who post to forums.

hehe!
I think I'm sort of lucky, relative to most Londoners. I get, and I give, probably in equal amounts (but since they play periodic bassy shit, I tend to be very irritated). The late night DIY is a bit of a pain though.
Obscene: That was a bloody great idea. Gr8 1.

Yeah this is very familiar problem.. when you live in house together with some other people, it is not really easy to listen music really loudly. But there is a solution which worked great for me... headphones . Though at the office people are still complaining since when you listen at max headphones can be quite loud aswell.
