Interesting topic

Do you compose from a purely musical standpoint where the main aim is to make something as musically captivating as possible?

I don't know for sure, but I hope I am not.

Do you compose with concepts, images, or similiar things in mind, that way applying specific meanings to some or all aspects of the music?

Yeah. I used to try to express stories by the order the song parts come in (as in fading wings, it follows the story events perfectly), but nowdays I find it to be far more effective to not be too faithful to the events in the story, and just try to capture it's feeling as good as possible. Images 'n stuff inspire me a lot too.

Do you make music by pure intuition?

I often wish I did. Sometimes I get the horrible thoughts going like "but am I really doing this because of inspiration?". Then I start to analyze things too much, and... well, it's somewhat like a self fulfilling profecy, misunderstand me wrong. My best songs, is always the songs I didn't think too much about when I created.

Do you see music from a more technical point of view, where the main aim is to make something complex and/or original?

This has also changed. I used to try to make everything as complex and orginal as I could, but once ex showed me some record of two guys comming together, playing organ 'n drums, recording it etc. Was inspired by the forest 'n stuff. It was like the simplest things I have ever heard, but it had soul. Lots of it. And it proved me even the simplest things can be full of orginality.
Fortunately, my music is much more interesting than my posts.

When I'm doing an ambient song, the only thing I'm interested in is to give a strong impression of an image in my head and the feelings this image arises in me. In such a case I don't care how would the song look technically or musically.
When I'm doing a world instrumental, I am interested in capturing a listener musically into endless melodies, into this rythm, into the life of musical phrases that make your mind sing variations long time after you stopped listening the song.
Yo, nothing else I can add. :)

Well, since I'm slightly curious and very bored: what's behind your music?

I am behind my music. I hope you can hear who I am, and what I think about life when you listen to my music. I know that i've put in in there :)

Well, its surely an aim for me, but there are more aims. I want to express my feelings/opinions about something and also its very important for me to (not in all tracks) try to explain myself to myself. I mean, i guess i'm not the only one who doesn't understand himself, and with music I understand myself a little bit more.

Sometimes. It usually comes when i've got a beat ready and a few melodies.. Lots of my tracks are actually related to other works of art (mostly music) and a few are related to feelings that I have during a specific situation. I've written a song to pratice my quality skills though, so that song isnt really related to anything. It sounded crap musically, although song was technically better then my previous ones.

No. How could I make a supersaw-pad by intuition only? I obviously need skills to do that, so I make music with skills AND intuition. I guess everyone does actually (even nifflas, who claims to make music my intuition only :P )

Yes. Originality is important, complexity is also important although simple can be very effective sometimes. Also, the technical approach in me wants to have a good quality. I can't enjoy songs with less quality as good as I enjoy songs with a great and awesome quality. Mixing is really important for me.

Most of the time, yes. What I try to make is a good piece of music.

Do you compose with concepts, images, or similiar things in mind, that way applying specific meanings to some or all aspects of the music?

In general I don't think of any concepts. Sometimes I compose with musical concepts in mind. Like: let's make a tango piece, let's make a tropical piece, let's make a March. But, as I like film music, some times there's a blur line beween what is purely musical and what is influenced my image. Examples: "let's make a dark piece of music" or "let's make a terrifying piece of music". In general, though, I tend to inspire myself in the work of composers I like. So, in the end, the aim is purely musical.

Do you make music by pure intuition?

Yes, but sometimes I like to apply some knowledge. For example, when I made "Free Man's Tango", I made the intro by intuition. Then I researched how tango rythm is and used it.

Do you see music from a more technical point of view, where the main aim is to make something complex and/or original?

I don't see it as technical. I see it as artistical. The aim is to make something beautiful. It doesn't matter if it's complex or original, although I've tried to make original things to. Moreover, now that I'm thinking, this is something I like to do, but not always.

Richard Strauss used to say that "There is no such thing as abstract music. There's only good music and bad music. And if it's good, then it means something". I disagree. I think the essence of music is abstract, and therefore I focus on making beautiful music, regardless of it's meaning. However, I recognize the power of music to evoke images and feelings, and I like to make that too. But those images are not concrete. They are general, blur things. Things like "happy", "dark" or "sad", and not like "a car is in front of my house" or "this is a green tree". This is related to the fact that I like film music and also the work of scoring scenes. It's really fun.

From Darkness To Light, my newest track.

"I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine"
-John Galt, "Atlas Shrugged", by Ayn Rand
