Every aspect on composing music is like mathematics.. since 1 month i'm trying to read every article about EQ and mastering.. DAMN pure math rules and theory bla bla. The same goes for every other aspect.. like making a drumbeat, choosing sounds, research for samples.. you could write 200 "How To" books about all of that.
Note orders is just another aspect of this very complex thing called composing... And it should be difficult... thats what makes it interesting..

Thats one of the great misconceptions in here. Some of you seem to disdain theory as if it's mathematics.
It's a language, chaps. It's there to help you express something, it's not a way of thinking.

actually it is mathematics also. I've read some article way back which says the chords progressions which sound good can simply be calculated and that music has a mathematical darkside to it.

Matthew Nite (Matthijs Breijer) - Improved a shitload, made some really nice songs in other genres and his heavilly desrving of it, almost got signed, and made hits. Huge contributor and popular. |

I don't think this is true, unless you make assumptions on what kind of chord progression should be considered "good". And even if you could, the calculations would be base on music not made with maths. Theory is made to understand the music that is there, not the other way round. Theory is an analysis tool.
From Darkness To Light, my newest track.

That's not true. I hardly ever use it
(well, on purpose I mean, of course I use it, otherwise my music would be too weird.. )

Theory doesn't tell you what to do and not to do in music. In theory, nothing is "right" or "wrong". It's only a way to describe music. I mean, theory is not more "evil" than a piano roll in a sequencer, or the note names in a tracker. In fact, it has the same purpose.
We must be allowed to speak the language of music theory to inspire each other to try new things we havn't before, just like we must be allowed to suggest filter and compressor settings. I mean, you sometimes might wanna tell someone "have you tried setting the cutoff frequency to around 2000hz and resonance to [and so on]" instead of "set the cutoff frequency until the sound goes like BreeeEeeewp! and change resonance so it sounds BiiiIIiiiiwp"
Fortunately, my music is much more interesting than my posts. |

Word!! I'm not aware of all terms used here ( kewl to know for now on ) but certainly agree with nifflas here. Terms are better, surely |
