Connected to previous poll, but the question is how much you do music per day (average, not per song).
Write some comments. |

All right, I gotta work 10 hrs in a workplace and have a cute 9 months old son.
Still, my wife is patient (so far ... but forever??)
I thought someone should really design a software which creates wav files from brain frequencies... |

I don't track a lot for the moment....but sometimes, when I've got time, I can spend hours and hours, a whole day, even without eating, just to stay in front of my computer ...it's the only way for me to make some nice songs, or else it sucks if I don't do it in 1 time...I hate having to continue a song when I started it a long time ago
...aftEr all, i'Ve just found whAt i was looking for... |

I totally agree with you... that's one thing I've notised during my two years of music-production: if you think you've got something going, DON'T stop until it's finished... or at least keep going as long as your eyes are open
If you leave the song, even if just for a couple of days, it's a lot harder to continue working on it later...
I also notised that I personally work best with a deadline. When I made my Ballroom-remix, I had a deadline of 5 hours, because there was this DJ who needed the song as fast as possible for his set at Club Cave in Copenhagen. I managed to finish the song during that little time. Although I didn't feel totally satisfied with it, but the DJ loved it and so did the record-company..
So nowadays I always set up a deadline for myself (even though I don't always stick to it ) and I can highly recommend the rest of you to do the same... it works
Tip of the day: Do not eat a whole pack of Dextrosol at once. It really upsets your stomache |

It's a matter of personal qualities and preferences. If i force myself to create something, i can spend hours and thereafter - delete it all. Not because i'm frustrated, but simply because I coldly evaluate it and see that it is no good. I often leave my songs for later and i never have special problems with continuing them. Moreover, I have new fresh view on how a song should be continued or/and edited.
So - again, you can't say one method is better than the other, different ways work for different people.

That's only good if you make songs for record companies and not for yourself.
Deadlines are good to motivate to work, but not always good for the final satisfaction. The problem is, even if someone tells my this or that song is great, i know it isn't for me, so I'm not happy with it... although i'm always happy hearing positive comments, but that's another pair of shoes.
So nowadays I always set up a deadline for myself (even though I don't always stick to it ) and I can highly recommend the rest of you to do the same... it works

Deadlines bring me bad associations... i write essays/homeworks/projects and stuff with deadlines (and usually don't manage to do that in time). At work - if we are responsible for keeping some project deadlines which is usually hard (bye bye bonus money... )... let music be fun at least!
But seriously, personal deadlines can be good to self-organise, true, but it's not an idea for me. I write music when I feel like doing it, when i feel less like it, I'd rather listen. (or play) |

Well, personally, I do not like things unfinished. So, basically I agree to set some deadlines, but in another context. Say you have an idea and you give yourself (eg) a week to create a song from it. Basically, you have a week for that song before you start another.
Now, obviously, music is hobby, if you do not meet your own "deadlines", you still got a |
