I used to think it meant something similar to doskpop, specifically the style of music that was used in mod scene demos from the early 90's. But apparently this is wrong? Help.

afaik it's just music that moves from part to part really fast, like showing different scenes in a demo.

I like to think of it as a catch-all non-genre-specific category. If it even remotely resembles stuff you hear/heard in a demo and you can't think of what else to call it, call it "demostyle".

DemoStyle actually is a style on its own, not just "if you can't give it a genre, then its demostyle" or "if its in a demo, then its demostyle".
Demostyle is a bit like SoundTrack style. Demostyle is written as a showcase of what you can. Demostyle is an evolved version of a Chiptune without all the restrictions of sound and filesize.
Demostyle usually was made in combination with synth and downtempo to create climaxes.
Demostyle however has nearly died and in its place usually Dance/Electro is used instead.
You can ask me hundreds "why don't you" questions, answer will be, because it works that way too. - xTr1m |

No, that's where you are completely wrong my friend . Demostyle has not died and will never die. There are always fans of the demoscene all around the world and therefore demoscene activists. There are numerous demoscene parties held all around Europe. If you guys want more info about demoscene and demostyle music, check out this link ---> Wikipedia - Demoscene
I'd say if a song is made by an artist that is in some way linked to some kind of demoscene activity, a product (demo, musicdisk, intro or something like that) or he/she belongs to a demoscene group, then he can call himself a demostyle artist.
