With many genre you can just do one or two aspects of the song live, like keyboards+vocals or whatever

I agree with psy-ko,
Live 4 is the top program for live performances. There's lots realtime tweaking you can do with your songs.
You can even do a live mixing session with your mp3's i think .

| I've been considering the same thing recently as well. I think the best would be to have your track playing and then play melody lines or chords on a synth with the tracks. If your tracks have vocals that's obviously important to do live. You could even just have the tracks playing on your laptop and go up and sing with them. I would be interested to hear about any experiences you guys may have had with live playing though, good thread. |

Cheers for the replies guys! I'd definitely be interested to hear some tales if anybody has actually played live.
I'll have to go and check out some of that software that you mention...
I reckon the only other alternative (which would only work with a few tracks I know) would be to do an "unplugged" session, i.e. just play stripped down acoustic piano versions - which to be honest I'd also be very interested in doing...

I've been pondering the exact same question for a long time. I've heard that Homesickalien uses a laptop with a tracker on stage with his band.
I've tried bringing a laptop with Renoise to the first rehersal of my band, and I had allot of syncing problems. The idea was that I'd map an instrument such that every key would launch a different pre recorded sound, and on the background Renoise would play a phased synth line. But pressing space to start the song had some latency and that kinda screwed us up since the plan was for the drummer to start first and renoise would come in after and it never synced despite my efforts.
I still think that if I can get a good midi controller I can pull something off and do wicked live sampling on stage with renoise or LIVE, but so far I've been investing my money in more promising audio gear.
I guess live hardcore punk and Renoise aren't a very good match.
